This weekend, I finally upgraded to Windows Vista, the only problem is since my genuine one is a DVD of Ultimate, I had to download Ultimate Lite. I want my Vista to be full so I was wondering if you guys that have Vista Ultimate can give me these apps and tell me where to put them so it's original:

Media Center
Movie and DVD Maker
Screensavers
SideShow
Sound Recorder
Waindows Mail
Windows Calendar
Windows Photo Gallery
Welcome Center

Please help me!

This is confusing - why did you not use your Ultimate DVD and instead use the hacked "Lite" one? :S

Because all the computers in my house are CD only and when I took it to my friend's house to install it on my portable HD, the DVD wasn't readable.

You'd probably be better off buying a DVD drive, they cost next to nothing nowadays and I'd be surprised if you have a PC that can run Windows Vista but did not ship with a DVD drive originally anyway. You can order a 5 CD set of Windows Vista (32-bit only) from Microsoft for the cost of shipping if you really need it though (although it is around half the cost of a DVD drive) - that would probably be a better option than trying to add the missing components back in, these hacked Vistas tend to never work properly with updates etc and there are a lot of things in Vista to stop you installing components that aren't meant for your edition (it might work if this "Lite" thing is still "Ultimate"-branded but it may well not).

I don't want to buy the DVD drive and my PC doesn't support Vista. It took me 2 and a half days to get it running.

Looks to me as if it supports Vista, the minimum requirement is only a PIII 800 MHz and 512 MB Ram, and it will run on any PIII and 384 MB of Ram without complaint (and 256 MB Ram if you hack the installer). Really, it would be much better to get the 5 CD set or a DVD drive, it would just work with no hassle then...

It must run like crap on that computer. Why don't you just install XP?

Based on what I read in this topic, maybe Microsoft should make another version of WinFLP, only it is based on Vista(which is never)

Nah. I gave it a whole lot of registry tweaks so it manages to run so-so.

Anyways, can you guys give me the stuff I need?

Most of the thing's your asking for aren't very important anyway ( I never really liked media center) and I doubt they'l just fit back in. My advice is to install irfanview to replace photo gallery, and learn to live without the rest.
If you were planning to use Windows Mail with a Hotmail account, just install Windows Live Mail.
The screensavers you wouldn't have any trouble getting to work, but they really aren't anything special, why not just set your monitor to shut off whenever you computer is unnatended, saves a little power.
And why on Earth do you want the Welcome Center??

If you have another HD you can install Vista from it...
I use a 10gig IDE to install my MS operating systems.

Of all the things you have their exists either better versions from 3rd parties (Windows Mail -> Thunderbird) or they are useless (Welcome Center).

Oh dear. If you're going to run Vista on that... thing... then I'd suggest at least investing in RAM and HDD upgrades. By then though it might be cheaper to buy a new laptop.

Untill you do you really need to think about wether or not you are happy with the speed of your PC running Vista, and if not, perhap's you should downgrade back to an earlier OS.

If you want to do things a bit more faster and really use your laptop.

Use XP Pro/Home on that laptop.
Its much faster then Vista on that CPU (is only 1 core) and vista uses almost all RAM now and XP not.

For speed use XP
For that you just want to life with a very slow machine now use Vista.

I applied lots of registry tweaks to my Vista yesterday and believe it or not now it's faster than XP and I never got a BSOD!

Take a look here: http://get.live.com/WL/config_all The programs are not directly the same as vista's, but windows live mail is almost the same as vista's windows mail, photo gallery is almost the same.

Here is movie maker (2): http://www.download.com/Windows-Movie-M ... 65075.html

Or here (2, 2.6): http://www.free-codecs.com/Windows_Movi ... wnload.htm (saw this one when i was browsing)

Parts of sideshow are on microsoft connect

For windows media center, you can use this: http://www.team-mediaportal.com/. It is other, and less than the microsoft ones, but it is a good alternative.

The screensavers are here: http://www.johntp.com/2007/04/25/downlo ... indows-xp/, and here: http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/V ... 44716.html.

This all are free alternatives, or microsoft gives it free away.

I think you didn't had to chose ultimate, but home basic.

But buying a new dvd drive is a better option, they are not expensive, and you have very much on them.

It doesnt matter if you use Starter or Ultimate.

The number of discs are always this:

DVD = 1
CD = 5

With VLite you can make them into CD's.
