Forum rules

Please read the following rules before posting a download request in this area:

1. Don't post a request if you have under 10 posts as stated on the front page. If you do anyway, it will be deleted without further notice. This also applies to other members: If you see a request by someone with less than 10 posts and it hasn't been deleted yet, please don't reply to it.
2. Don't request for warez or any copyrighted software. Only betas (no matter how old or new) and finals of operating systems and applications that are at least 10 years old and therefore classified as abandonware are allowed to be uploaded to and shared on the BetaArchive FTP server.
3. If you have your own FTP server where you'd like other members to upload what you're looking for to, please don't post its login details in any open forum as that will probably lead to abuse. Post the login details in the Private Servers section instead.
4. Check that we don't already have the file on our FTP servers. If you don't have access to the FTP servers then ask someone who has (a moderator for example).

I've been digging around in my collection of Mac OS stuff and found a couple of betas of Mac OS Classic:

System 7.1b7 - A beta of System 7.1 from 1992
Image

System 7.5.4 - An update to System 7.5.3 that was quickly pulled due to a major bug
Image

Mac OS 8.2d8 - A developer release of Mac OS 8.2 (later renamed to 8.5)
Image

Unfortunately, I am not an Advanced Member yet, so I do not have access to the FTPs, but I can upload this stuff to Mediafire or MegaUpload if anyone is interested

Edit: Uploaded to Mediafire:
System 7.1b7: http://www.mediafire.com/?cnqcyjdgywd
System 7.5.4: http://www.mediafire.com/?rwvyodomu2j
System 8.2d8:http://www.mediafire.com/?z4t3uy2uxoi

Note about System 8.2d8: You *need* to disable extensions on first boot (hold down shift until you see "Extensions Disabled".) Once you start up, you need to go to the Extensions Manager control panel and disable "Energy Saver" under "Control Panels" and "MacsBug" under "System Folder"

Edit: Uploaded to the official BetaArchive FTP!

would the Beta of OS 8.x run in emulator like basilisk II `?

I once managed to get OS 8 rtm running under Suse Linux 9.3 inside the Basilik emulator at quite good speeds.

in other words : is it 68k (universal install) or strict PPC ?

No, the 8.2 Beta requires PowerPC, but the 7.1 beta and 7.5.4 will run in Basilisk II

By the way, there is a PowerPC Mac emulator called SheepShaver at http://gwenole.beauchesne.info//en/projects/sheepshaver that will run the OS 8.2 beta as well as any Mac OS from 7.5.2 to 9.0.4.

It's noticable that Sheepshaver is very similar to Basilisk II. At least the Windows versions is.

The quickkey you provided for file download was invalid. This is usually caused because the file is no longer stored on Mediafire. This occurs when the file is removed by the originating user or Mediafire.

That sucks, I hope at least some people got to enjoy these files before MediaFire removed them. :x

It's on the BA FTP, so when you become an advanced user, you can get it there

I'll download it from the FTP for you and upload it to rapidshare. It'll be done in about half an hour.
