[req] MS-DOS 5.00 (April release)

Post by os2fan2 »

I'm looking for the first release of MS-DOS 5.00, in april 1991.

There was a very common second release with date 1991.11.11. I already have this. The earlier release apparently had dates 1991.04.06.

Thanks.

Without digging too deep, I just checked on the genuine 5.0 upgrade
disks I own here & found the dates to be 9th april 91, any good to you.?
Or is it only the full version you're after...

Image

I probably have the full version if I dug deep enough through the backups...

Thanks, might be short lived though, as soon as I make amends with 1
enemy, I gain 2 more the next day, without even trying...

Now as far as this Dos is concerned, After a bit of digging, I found the
full version of this, but again, dated 9th of april 1991, so i'm not sure
how reliable your source is for the date of 6th of april 1991..
The difference between the full & upgrade I have here is

:upgrade has:
37 files on D1
28 files on D2
52 files on D3

:Full has:
35 files on D1
31 files on D2
35 files on D3

All images are 720k... Big difference on Disk3...
I can pesonally vouch for the authenticity of the upgrade set as I
bought them new, still haven't used them yet...
You interested in these at all os2fan2..?
& did you want a scanned image of the genuine labels..?

EDIT:
I just found a DELL branded MS-Dos 5.00, but only disk 1 so far..
Opening the command.com with a hex editor shows it as
MS-Dos 5.00, yet all the file dates are 11th May 1992, that's a late one...
Actually, I found some support disks & all sorts of crap associated with
this set, buggered if I can find disk 2 & 3 though...

EDIT 2:
Just Found another MS-Dos 5.00 floppy, By Intertan,
But again, only Disk 1, it's file dates are 1st of Sep 1991..

& every set has a time of 5:00:00 AM

Eh, don't worry about them

Also, I would like it if you could supply scanned labels etc for this if possible...

I have an old Packard Bell OEM copy of MS-DOS 5.0, however, Disk 1 was damaged, so I only have Disk 2, however, I'll look at that disk today.
I also have a couple of old Leading Edge laptops with some files from MS-DOS 5.0 from June 1991. You might even find this version on eBay. I recently started looking for old OS's on eBay, now that I started my own OS Collection, and I found lot's of intresting DOS versions there, including some copies of DR-DOS and even IBM-DOS.

That's the one. upgrade vs full is not an issue. I was unsure of the date, but i do know that the bulk of DOS versions are 5.00.02, rather than 5.00.00

I imaged all the early versions I listed in my second post here, so you
have both the upgrade & full versions of this, dated 9th of april 1991,
plus the other odd early versions, plus the floppy label scans...

The megashares download link.

A mirror download of the same package.

I just checked my copy of MS-DOS 5.0 Disk 2 (Packard Bell OEM) and the files are dated May 30th, 1991. Is this version on the servers? If it isn't, I would like to upload it.

Edit: I checked your download and I didn't find this version in it. I'm going to upload it to Rapidshare soon.
