Forum rules

Please read the following rules before posting a download request in this area:

1. Don't post a request if you have under 10 posts as stated on the front page. If you do anyway, it will be deleted without further notice. This also applies to other members: If you see a request by someone with less than 10 posts and it hasn't been deleted yet, please don't reply to it.
2. Don't request for warez or any copyrighted software. Only betas (no matter how old or new) and finals of operating systems and applications that are at least 10 years old and therefore classified as abandonware are allowed to be uploaded to and shared on the BetaArchive FTP server.
3. If you have your own FTP server where you'd like other members to upload what you're looking for to, please don't post its login details in any open forum as that will probably lead to abuse. Post the login details in the Private Servers section instead.
4. Check that we don't already have the file on our FTP servers. If you don't have access to the FTP servers then ask someone who has (a moderator for example).

These two programs came in one disk (Part No. 690-5009A).
Unfortunately, there's nowhere to download such a disk image.
Can somebody please help me?

Bumping this request, researching this particular software title a bit today.

Surprising there is not an archive of this out there. Can't even find a good confirmed floppy photograph.

The 1.0 application binares are out there, but not disk images, I would like to know what sample files may have been on the disks.

According to earlymacintosh.org, this revision would have been released with the first Mac128k on January 24, 1984. Anything after May 1984 would have a later version.

MacWrite and MacPaint came in a separate box from the system software. This included:

- Product box
- 690-5009-A "MacWrite MacPaint" disk [2]: MacWrite 1.0, MacPaint 1.0
- 690-5006-A "MacWrite MacPaint: A Guided Tour" training disk <- reportedly the original first version is copy protected!
- 942-0417A [A Guided Tour of MacWrite MacPaint] audio tape (Side 1: 027-0015B, Side 2: 027-0016B)
- 030-0688 [MacWrite] manual, 143 pp. 1983. Covered MacWrite 1.0.
- 032-0002 [MacWrite/MacPaint Update] insert. Dated January 25, 1984
- 030-0848 [MacPaint] manual, 32 pp. 1983. Used for MacPaint versions 1.0 to 1.5.

Note that the part numbers refer to the documentation bundles, so they can be different for the same software in different bundles.

Of course, a big problem with disks from this era is that unless someone stumbles on an unopened box, the disks contents have probably been modified. Users wrote files to original disks all the time, and the Macintosh itself writes desktop information if you even move an icon unless the disk is write protected. Since there were no hard drives, the heavy use many of these disks received also means disks that still exists may be damaged.
