Overdoze wrote:Do you still get it in 1.4.4 or you used to get it in previous versions? I've identified it to come from bad detection of OS version, which is fixed now.

Also, the OS version is set by VPC when you install additions, so if it's not there already I can't really detect anything.
No I dont get it anymore, I probably always got it every time in the last version when I select the .vmc for a VM it would give the Error, good thing the bug was fixed, I shoudld have reported it, but you probably noticed already :P

Well yeah, it would obviously help but I've figured it out myself now that I've done some more work on it.

See the README, it explains it's caused by newly created virtual machines. Just start the VM once and try again.

I kept forgetting that, also is the next Beta coming soon, or anything?

I've recently had to reinstall Windows and what not and I've got some other things to do as well, so it won't be that soon. I will probably change this behaviour so it won't throw an error, but rather a tip or something, though.

That's good to hear, as it should work. :P

Anyways, made update 1.4.5 today with the following:

Code: Select all

Version 1.4.5:

+ Date sync: can now be disabled/enabled even with BIOS node missing
* BIOS error: changed behaviour so it's now a warning
* Code: various improvements
* Bugfix: OS name now properly displayed as "Unknown" if no OS is set
As I announced in the previous post, I changed the BIOS/CMOS message from an error to a warning that can be bypassed. You won't be able to change the actual date as the node for it isn't there, but you can still disable/enable date sync. You can just start the virtual machine for the first time and the BIOS node will be created by Virtual PC, then you can set the date you want.

Please note that this update is not yet live due to some server issues. Will be sorted out today I hope.

I dont know if it would be possible, but maybe a way to apply a Windows Protection Error Fix (Mainly Chicago, 95, Nashville, Memphis), when starting a build that has Protection

Just a suggestion
There is always Ideas people could think of
EDIT: Idea Wont Work

That requires modifying OS files and can't be done just by editing the VMC file, so no.

Maybe a dumb question, but is it possible to add support for SLIC 2.1 or OEM SLP Keys inside Virtual PC BIOS? That would be a great feature! :o

No. Also not sure why you'd want this, unless there's piracy involved.

Oh no, no piracy here. It's to make run "XP Mode" VHD (from Windows 7, in Windows 8), in Virtual PC 2007 and no need to deal with activation. But don't worry, if you don't know how to add this feature, it's OK. 8-)

BIOS SLIC is not something I can just change in the VMC file (which is what this tool does), I'd have to edit the BIOS for that (which essentially means editing the main VPC executable), which is something beyond my skill level and, quite honestly, beyond the scope of this tool.

Not really, RL priorities getting in the way.

If there's an important issue that needs fixing, let me know and I'll try to get something done, otherwise it could be a while before any new versions pop up.

Ah yeah, forgot that the old address is no longer in use. I'll try to get this sorted out soon, downloads are unavailable in the mean time...

I should probably also mention (again) that any future versions with awesome new features etc. have been canceled. Current version (1.x) will hopefully be updated to final 1.5 release with a better UI and additional fixes (if required) sometime in summer.

EDIT: It also appears I failed to fix the ReadVMC error on some virtual machines without OS info. Will be fixed for good in 1.5.

Re: [TOOL] Virtual PC Toolkit - change BIOS date & disable s

I've identified an issue that causes readVMC() to fail on certain virtual machines. I believe it is related to the undo disks option, will investigate and probably make a fixed version 1.4.6 later today.

EDIT: The issue has been fixed. Changelog for v1.4.6:

Code: Select all

+ Error codes: added error codes ERR006 and ERR007 for file related exceptions during readVMC and applyVMC
* Bugfix: reading some virtual machines fails for unknown reasons
Apparently I can no longer edit the original post in this topic, so I can't update the info, but the links point to latest version.
