Forum rules

Please read the following rules before posting a download request in this area:

1. Don't post a request if you have under 10 posts as stated on the front page. If you do anyway, it will be deleted without further notice. This also applies to other members: If you see a request by someone with less than 10 posts and it hasn't been deleted yet, please don't reply to it.
2. Don't request for warez or any copyrighted software. Only betas (no matter how old or new) and finals of operating systems and applications that are at least 10 years old and therefore classified as abandonware are allowed to be uploaded to and shared on the BetaArchive FTP server.
3. If you have your own FTP server where you'd like other members to upload what you're looking for to, please don't post its login details in any open forum as that will probably lead to abuse. Post the login details in the Private Servers section instead.
4. Check that we don't already have the file on our FTP servers. If you don't have access to the FTP servers then ask someone who has (a moderator for example).

Does anybody have old SDKs/DDKs for early Windows systems, or even better, other operating systems? ATM I'm uploading the Windows 3.1 DDK to Abyss Underground to complement the Windows 3.1 SDK that is already there. These things are typically full of really interesting tools and sample source code :)

I think I have a load at home for Windows 3.1/95/NT3 and 4/BackOffice Server etc - there's always a lot of them in MSDN sets. I've never really done anything with them though - presumably they only make sense to someone that's a programmer?

The NT3, 4 and BackOffice stuff sound pretty interesting. More recent stuff (Windows 2000+) is available for download on Microsoft's site, as well as a few odds and ends (e.g. WinG SDK).

I think it can make sense to anybody dedicated enough, but I suppose most of the source code would only be of interest to a programmer :) That being said, there are some cool utilities you can find in the SDKs/DDKs. For example, in the Windows 2000 DDK is a nice utility that shows you details about all the devices connected to your USB ports. Another useful one is the Windows Image Acquisition test tool which let's you exploit all the low-level abilities of web-cams that you have :)

Cool, I'll have to investigate what exactly is in them some time :) If you're still looking in a few weeks time when I'm at home then I'll see what exactly I've got and whether there's one or two that you'd like.

That sounds great! I'm not in dire need of anything in particular, just curious to see what kind of internal tools they developed and published for people to mess around with the technology at that time :)

I recently purchased a couple of early NT 3.1 to 3.51 Developer Kits with
some really interesting progs on them apart from the betas...
The NT 3.51 SDK had apps like 3D Paint & others I never even knew
existed...
One of the kits even had the original {Marked as "Microsoft Confidential"}
release of the Shell/Dektop update for the 3.51 final...
Complete with all processor type releases, Alpha,Mips,PPC & I386...

Iv'e rarred them ready to upload, & will do so some time soon...

No probs...

I've got a disk labelled as "Win32 SDK & Windows NT DDK for Win NT 3.1"
if that's of any interest to you...
From 1994.

That would be much appreciated! I'm very interested in a first hand look at the architectural differences between 3.1, 3.51 and 4... SDKs and DDKs are best way to explore this because of all the source code and tools available. :) I'm already enjoying my first look through that 3.51 resource kit... lots of tools for exploring internals this weekend... and who'd have expected 3dpaint for NT :o :D

I've uploaded the Windows 3.1 DDK, and the Windows 3.1 SDK was already there ("Win3x SDK"). :)

Yeah I upped the Win3.1 SDK but never got around to upping the DDK.

The NT 3.1 Win32's_SDK & DDK ISO has just finished uploading...
It's 612mb un-rarred, compressed to 182mb with recovery & authenticity,
These early ISOs compress good don't they...

Another quick dig uncovered a Win3.1 SDK & DDK CD in Japanese,
Chinese, Hebrew & Arabic.
& what looks like a WFW3.11 SDK + a few different MS-Dos installations
in a few languages on the same CD...

Any interest in this one at all.?
