Somewhere I have a build of this where my friend got HL2 and EP1 running on that engine with all the cool shadows it is like 5 or 6GB though.

Yup, I have got HL2 working back in the day too. It actually worked pretty flawlessly.
Particle benchmark can be noticed from rough edges on the shadows and they also look a bit wierd, not done correctly. You can see the rough edge behind the standing combine.

Interesting is the blurred background image, most likely an early bridge/outpost that got changed! (iirc it looked like it could be from the first bridge with striders and stuff in EP2, after antlion caves)

Yeah, If I remember right it had the new blood effects as well. Also that bridge, it's almost like there should have been the animated background bsp but they never included it.
