Because HL2Leak's engine is very different to retail one (v37 models support, hydra code, advanced squad control ... and much more). And VALVe never release full HL2 (retail) source code, so it's not possible to make realy leak-like mod.

Some usefull links for leak/beta's fans:

It's actually really easy to make a leak mod for the retail game, but Team GabeN chose the leak engine because there's been tons of leak mods for the retail version of the game already. They also have access to the engine code, vgui, etc. They've made major improvements to the engine from what I can tell.

They have. This is quoted from the TeamGabeN HL2 wiki:

Code:
Features

1) Completely fixed weapons, npcs, and other things related to the source code.
2) Fixed maps, materials and models.
3) Retail entities and weapons integrated into the game.
4) Less crashes, and a more stable engine.

In depth information:

    * Working player controlled missiles and manhacks
    * Working Hydra, Cremator, and soon Assassin (Alien)
    * Fixed v_models and w_models
    * Completely fixed weapons (Immolator, Brickbat, * CGuard, Molotov etc.)
    * De-X'd textures
    * All weapon icons
    * Added motion blur (Off by default)
    * Fixed impulse 101
    * Added 357
    * Weapons eject brass
    * Working Conscript
    * Background map support
    * Background music in menu
    * Better widescreen support
    * Fixed impact decals in multiplayer
    * Fixed shaders (sheyders) and bloom on NVidia GPUs

Yes it is, but it will be faraway from leak (like a MI ... it's good mod but in details its not Leak... ). If they make a mod for retail engine they must convert all models (and fix animations ... )

It's not hard to fix the models at all, hell it's probably easy to port them to the retail engine than update the leaked code to use the model version that the leaked binaries use.

There's a lot more that they've done, that changelog is pretty outdated. They've added a ton more features and stability improvements.

You mean update leak's source code to use retail v44 models? It's not problem to update leaked source to use v37. But v44 model structure is very different to v3x... TeamGabeN, ScarT^ work on it for very long time, so they maybe done it...i dont know, because GabenNET is not working for me (i tried that on static IP, no router, used -clientport "xxx", firewall && antivirus off ...and still nothing).

Now I work on my own leak source updates, v37models support, fixed UI, some MP fixes, weapons and VGUI fixes, background maps support are completed.

They updated them to v37, I've tried to update them unsuccessfully but I haven't really done much work since then.

Did you enable port forwarding for 25050 UDP?

Hey baso, how did you upgrade the engine to load v37 models?? I've been trying for AGES and have been unsuccessful. Could you please tell me? I asked Team GabeN but they were unhelpful, telling me to "f off".
