I'm sure most of you have heard of the massive data leak from BroadOn. What would all of this source code and SDKs do for homebrew development? I'm thinking that this could lead to more accurate emulation of the consoles (I believe there is an official GameBoy emulator in the leak, correct me if I'm wrong).

The GameBoy emulator is nothing interesting, every chip in it is fully reverse-engineered and better documented than in the official datasheets. There are better emulators out there today.

What's interesting though is the (apparently complete) Verilog of the N64 chips (RDP, RSP, etc), that might help in improving N64 emulation in corner cases.

The rest is not very interesting (some Pokemon stuff). But there might be more upcoming (it's reportedly a 2TB leak but so far only a few dozen gbytes have been released)

This leak will do very little if nothing in terms of homebrew and emulation. Whilst the code was leaked, it still belongs to Nintendo, and they still own the copyright. And we all know how much Nintendo likes to shoot first and ask questions later. Dolphin emulator officially announced that they will not be implementing any of the Wii's official code into their emulator for this exact reason - because if they do, Nintendo can (and most likely will) have Dolphin shut down.

Dumps of Nintendo's encryption chips used in older consoles and cartridges was also leaked, but this wouldn't really help in emulation anyways, since this wouldn't be relevant. And once again, this information cannot be used in homebrew software, as Nintendo will have the project shut down.

Whilst it is nice that we now have some more insight into Nintendo's code, and I'm sure it will be great for individual project, it's unlikely that any significant publication will use any of the leaked code for anything more than a reference, because if they do, they're at Nintendo's mercy (or lack thereof).

If you want more information I would suggest you check out Modern Vintage Gamer's video on the topic, he goes into a lot more detail on the topic, explaining how this COULD be used, and why it won't be.

The leaked N64 hardware documentation looks interesting for making an FPGA N64. The chips might be too complex though. It's not a simple NES anymore.

I'm interested in the n64dd side of things. I hope that maybe one day the n64dd prototype of Unreal will surface. I've once spoken to someone who claimed to have seen the blue disk of that.

I really hope some old hackers will come back to the Wii with some new stuff, It's still an interesting console to mess around with.
