I really think you guys need to put a "Quick Reply" button, so people can easily post.

Well, the REPLY button is easy enough.

Step 1)
Click it

Step 2)
Write what you want

Step 3)
Click Submit.

All done.

The Fast Reply button does the same, but not loading a new page for posting.
and AFAIK it's not supported in phpBB.

There's no reason AFAIK that it couldn't be done with a little hacking, but it's a dumb feature because it just enables crappy posting.

The faster someone can submit a post, the less time they spend thinking about what they've put in it.

longview: There's no reason we can't do that right now.

Quick reply would be awesome if it could be used though.

I'm on a phpBB2 board with a quick reply box, they are very handy.

Reply button version:

In my experience, the number of "junk posts" people make is directly proportional to whether or not there's a quick reply. One word answers may be more concise than actually thanking a person for posting a good link or explaining your opinion, but they're very tedious for other people to read through.

Quick reply version:

S'a bad idea.

I'm on a GPRS connection. A crappy GPRS connection. I don't even get the half of 53,6k that is usual speed at GPRS. It takes me 15-45s for site to load! (depends if the graphics were loaded previously and humor of my modem). Submiting a reply would be a lot faster for me if there was just the quick reply button.

Maybe more helpful than a quick-reply button would be a text-only version of the site, but you do raise a good point. Text-only versions of forums are, as far as I know, pretty common, and particularly helpful when you're digging through posts via google search.

But I digress, for your situation a quick reply button would help. To be honest, though, I'd consider that the exception, rather than the rule.

A text version of the site is possible by turning CSS and images off. No modification my end is even necessary.
