I was wondering if you could add a shoutbox on bottom since this is a good place for members to have discussions and also just chat.

I think that is what the IRC was intended for. Though a shoutbox might get used more.

No, for several reasons.

1. There would be too many people chatting on it at once to follow.
2. We have IRC for this use.

Hi,

Allthough i have my roots back on dalnet, and still have my mIRC installed, i rarely used, mostly because i'm often on the road.

Anyway, i can second the idea of a chat on the page.

Andy, have you see the chat bar on facebook, couldent we add a minor system like that ? - i would personaly like to throw some money into that.

Wait... why are we discussing adding chat-features to a discussion forum?

If only there were some dedicated service for instant chatting; like a chat program or a sort of internet relay chat system...

Why stop at that, why not got the full way and chat with voice on a TeamSpeak server or something ... ? Personally I find giant chat box's / shout box's stuck on a forum fairly annoying. I don't see what's wrong with using MSN, or some other equivilant thing, members forum profiles give the address if you want to chat with somebody, and as it was said, there is already an IRC server.

Hence, as you say, the IRC server. People requested it, it was put up, and nobody uses it. The same will go for the chat box won't it...?

Personally I think people would use a chat box more because sometimes IRC can be slightly more of a hassle.

The forum is already cluttered without another feature being added. There are many other ways to talk to people person to person. MSN, YahooIM, MySpace IM, aolIM, Skype, IRC... Anyway, think about it, a chat box works in the same way as the forum anyway! You post, it keeps it in the list for people to read! You're looking at a huge chat box right now!

An awful idea, why? You see this a lot, a forum with barely any posts and an active shoutbox, I doubt any of the shoutbox will be archived, I doubt it'll even be saved, that is why a forum is useful, someone give useful advice and a link to a unreleased beta, great. Now think of that on a shout box and nobody has the link for it at all, you've just lost a genuine beta there.
