That time of year is fast approaching, and i think that it would be good to put up some christmas decorations here at BA. Maybe a bit of tinsel on the logo etc.

Comments and Thoughts

That would be a good idea, just make sure it is not in "politically correct speech"

In other words, people these days are putting up "Happy Holiday" signs instead of "Merry Christmas" to avoid offending people- That is just stupid, no one will be offended... Right?

I like the idea of maybe changing the color scheme a bit and adding some tinsel or garland around the edge of the page. Also, maybe the smileys could be changed to ones with santa hats?

I agree with idontknow.

You have to remember not everyone celebrated Christmas like you might. While they might deal with the decorations and signs in normal day life, they shouldn't have to deal with it on the forum as well.

I think the most I could do is put "Seasons Greetings" or "Happy Holidays" into the title logo, but thats it, or it might offend others. The only problem with that is there is no space to put it on the logo, lol.

To be honest I think we should leave it how it is.

Again, not everyone might appreciate it. I think its best sticking with people putting what they like in their avatars and sigs.

We only celebrate christmas with a tree and thats it.

The presents we get tomorrow when its here Sinterklaas, (Sint Nicolas), 5 december.

But i like tux with an christmas hat.

@Andy, maybe an snow theme on the forum or at the top with the logo's.

To be honest, all that Christmas hype that's going on (TV ads, songs in the radio, and so on) is already enough for me (although I do like Christmas, of course) and I'd rather not like to see much of a Christmas decoration on here.

Just my 2 cents.

I've decided that its a no-go with the decoration. If people want to decorate their sigs and/or avatar then feel free, but its entirely up to you.

I'd rather be politically neutral if thats OK with everyone else.

Andy.

Here's a compromise: How about adding some snow to the page header. That isn't necessarily holiday-related, it's more weather-related. For those in the northern hemisphere, the holiday season just happens to coincide with when it often snows. :P

EDIT: uh yeah, what DjRob said a few posts ago. :P

My boss asked "When have you ever seen snow in December?"

:D He's right. Its been a very long time since I've seen snow in December here. lol.

Fair enough about the decorations, although i agree some snow would be nice, i'm sure it can be done with a bit of JavaScript

I suppose this could work, but I'd have to figure out how to embed it onto the forum. phpBB can be a bitch when it comes to scripts.

I dont think so. It's only a small script you have to add to the header of phpbb. I you want, i can send you the script!

Sure you can send it (e-mail) and I'll see what I can do about putting it on.

Slightly off-topic, but what do people think about people having to take Christmas decorations down off their own houses because people are offended?

Thrice "people" in one sentence :) Well, actually I'm not that bothered by that, I just ignore it. It's their house, so they actually can do whatever they want (up to some extent). There are other things that greatly bother me, though.
