Sorry for budging in here, but isn't all this quite off topic? :P.

It has been almost since the start M8. I weakened and joined in too.
The thread could be closed or renamed as it keeps popping up in new posts but it no longer has relevancy.

It is funny how threads with a specific idea can turn into something completely different over time. But it does happen a lot on forums.

Even now, we've changed the topic from Andy's MacBook to off topic changes

My reason for keeping things unleaked is because all my files are from Microsoft when I was an employee. Can't leak it. Might track me down :( :P

MS-DOS 3.30a & Windows/386!
I've always speculated its from the people who were there, that the builds could be traced back to them, and those beta's may contain far more information then the release....

Or more embarrassing information, like the super early NT beta's with the MS OS/2 3.0 stuff...

On that note I did have some super doope early beta's of NT that I got from some university people that were used as a launchpad for win32... And I've sadly misplaced them...

All I remember is the setup program was an actual MS-DOS program... and it was unstable as HELL in Virtual PC...

I'm trying to remember what the GUI looked like, but the best I recall is that it wasn't quite MS OS/2 1.3 nor Windows 3.0... but kind of in the middle, with a more Windows 3.0 program manager then the OS/2 one... But my memory is really cloudy back then.

I guess that's a thread for another topic... super rare stuff you've had and lost.....

I think it all really boils down to the fact that keeping somthing unleaked makes people feel good about themselves. Some people like the idea of being part of an exclusive little circle that gets to share in rare builds, gives them a feeling of superiority.
No one is more or less entitled to this software than anyone else, the builds come from Microsoft and are Microsofts legal property, and if Microsoft really wanted too they could easily stop us from sharing them, all it takes is a cease and desist.

Its an annoucement so it doesn't really matter and please leave the modding to the mods.

@Josh, I don't think it's about feeling superior in a lot of cases. Maybe a bit selfish, yeh, but most people keep quiet and don't leak because they want more. Also, there may be complications arising with friends, like they got it from a friend, who maybe wasn't even supposed to give it to them. Things like this happen, and people keep them unleaked for a whole range of reasons. Leaks will always happen though, as much as certain groups like to think they are airtight, and nothing can get out, they're wrong. Their members are humans, and they will always make mistakes, from leaving a file in an open place accidentally, to trusting all the wrong people.

I think a wait of an arbitrary length of time would be a good idea - they wait, say 6 months, before leaking it. Gives them time to have got it from anyone else.
