Hello all,

Someone sent me this a few weeks ago. After extensive testing by Neological, I have decided to let it be used by everyone.

The link is: http://www.betaarchive.co.uk/youtube.php5

Notes:
- Not all videos are downloadable. Those with age restrictions especially and some other random videos.
- You will need the klite codec pack or some other codec with FLV capabilities. A quick google for "klite" or "flv codec" will bring up a suitable codec pack.

Enjoy :-)

Andy (Admin)

...or instead of having to do extra downloading and converting, you could use VDownloader.

Why would you have to convert if you have the codec?

Because I get sick of having like 10 different video formats in my library, and flv isnt compatible with most programs that I use.

Good point but you'd only need to convert if you were to manipulate it in another program. If its just for viewing there is no need.

I think I'll use this now instead of downloadyoutubevideos.com, as this script dosen't require you to manually add the .FLV extension, which is cool :D

I'm fairly sure that VLC plays FLV videos so that's another viable option.

Sure, but the MP4 videos are in better quality than FLV files, obviously :)

Well, if the videos are taken from a camera phone it's the same crap quality :P

Not true. MP4 videos still have a better bitrate on both video and audio.
Although I agree the quality would suck anyway.

It doesn't matter if you convert it to an MP4 or not, the quality can never be better than the original youtube video...

Youtube recently introduced High-resolution copies of videos, allowing you to switch between the two. The high-resolution is encoded in MP4, where as the low-resolution is the old FLV format ;)

Yeah, but I've watched loads now and I can't see a single difference between the two versions... :S

Not all videos have their "HD" equivalents.
But if you are certain you watched both the HD and non-HD version of the video, and didn't see a difference, then that's strange. I can see a big difference.

Yeah i only notice the Hi Def link on some of the videos, namely the produced ones and not the ones taken on camera.
