The NIC problem caused another outage. Tomorrow I will be phoning the DC and requesting they either change the NIC or give me a new server to transfer to. If not I will take my business elsewhere because this is getting stupid.

I have just spoken to the datacenter again after 4 hours of downtime during the last 24 hours.

I have managed to persuade them to change the NIC and network cable. He said this should solve the issue... well I bloody hope so because this is getting stupid.

If that doesn't work he said ring up and we'll get the server replaced for you... so its not all bad. Lets hope this does work because I'm sick of it!

The server is due to be offline for around 1 hour some time today while the NIC is replaced.

I'll keep you all updated.

So do I. I hate the word 'outage' as much as the next person...

The NIC was not changed as expected but if all goes well a new server will be set up tomorrow and we can transfer to that and avoid all the hardware issues we're currently experiencing.

Here is a ping graph from yesterday showing areas where the server was not responding (in red).

Right, update for everyone:

It seems the data center has very strict rules when it comes to servers.

1. They can't swap any hardware
2. They can't change the HD from one chassis to another
3. They can't use the payment for next month on the current server and use it on a new one
4. They can't cancel the server and replace it with another one

Everything I suggest gets thrown back at me. The only thing they said I can do is let the current server expire, and pay for a new one just before it expires and transfer everything over. Unfortunately having just paid for next month, I can't pay for another server this month. This means we are going to have to put up with random downtimes on the server for another 30ish days.

However... the downtime hasn't been too bad over the last 48 hours, its been slowly getting less. Whether this is coincidence or just to annoy me thinking its all getting better I don't know. Personally I think we should look for another data center but they offer everything we need for a reasonable price. Its just such a shame we've had a bad experience as a new customer...

I shall persist however. I can be patient when I need to be...

Wow, I know that this new server increased speeds for people across the pond, but was it really worth it?
