Re: Windows 10 Sucks

In win10's defence, I will say that I like how they shifted autoplay notifications from stealing focus to appearing as advanced balloon tips. On Windows 7 with a smartphone being charged/accessed by my laptop with a loose USB connector, that got annoying quickly. To be honest AutoPlay should have b...

Re: Windows 10 Sucks

Windows 10 does have numerous improvements over Windows 7 (there are probably others I've forgot): -built-in Windows Defender antivirus -built-in USB 3.0 drivers which make installation easier on new hardware (which can be slipstreamed into W7 installation media) -200% DPI scaling for large display...

Re: Windows 10 Sucks

Why are you so paranoid about your privacy? Almost every tech companies tracks you. Then throw your computer away? I understand that most tech companies track me, but I tend to stay away from many of the big ones like Facebook and Google. However, Windows 10 still spies on you more than Windows 7, ...

Re: Why Windows ME was released after Neptune project cancel

That quote can not possibly be from 1997 because it mentions Windows 98 Second Edition, which was not even planned in 1997. Well to be clear, the quote itself is not from 1997. It is simply referencing events from 1997. It was part of a recollection of the development of Windows 2000. Sorry for bei...

8.1 is amazing. Would never consider 10. Athlon 640 and a HDD runs beautifully.b Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk I'm not a huge fan of Windows 8.1 but I see the appeal. I cannot see the appeal for Windows 10, and no one in the whole thread seems to have given a reason to switch to it. I've eve...

Re: Windows 94?

That "Cairo Shell" you're talking about was forked off of Cairo around December 1992 by the Windows 95 team and heavily modified before shipping in win95 and being put back into Windows NT. So that isn't the Cairo Shell, it's a descendant of it Also, we do have a Cairo build. 1175. Not NT4 1175, as...

Re: Display corruption in 122

I have a similar issue in the RTM of Windows 95. It simply detects the "S3 Trio" as "S3" and uses the wrong display driver, causing display corruption. However, once I set it to a generic VGA driver in Safe Mode, it autodetects it before fully booting into the OS.

Re: Windows 94?

It seems Windows 94 is actually another name for Windows Cairo, a Windows code name from 1993 that would later be known as Windows NT 4.0. Because when I searched "Windows 94" on Wikipedia, it redirected me to "Cairo (operating system)". Or is that false? That's a pure assumption. Also for the reco...

I'm guessing that you could use AntiWPA and unpack whatever file on the CD it needs to rewrite (might be winlogon.ex_ or slc.dl_, not sure), patch it using AntiWPA, and then repack it and re-burn.

Would you mind providing some sources for this "Triton became Odyssey" and "Millennium was NT6" stuff? The first time I heard about this was in this thread and it just seems to me that you are presenting your own assumptions as facts. Some of this is based on conjecture but it is also backed up by ...

Re: Why Windows ME was released after Neptune project cancel

AlphaBeta: I tend to believe tech journals on things like this but they're still not a 100% accurate source. Battler: I said few because I hadn't looked at all the sources and didn't want to make a statement like "none" or anything. The reference to "Odyssey" being the Win2K successor and NT6 (and a...

Windows Whistler Wifi

I am considering installing Windows Whistler (build 2296 would be preferable but I'd be willing to try pretty much anything) on a real laptop (circa 2006) and I am curious what the first Whistler build to have (probably a beta of) Windows XP's wireless client. I know XP was the first to include such...

Re: Windows 10 Sucks

Windows 7's OFFICIAL requirements changed from Vista but the usability didn't - 512MB "worked" with both (even though MS advertised Windows 7 as requiring 1GB), but not very well. A strange distinction to me. I always only refer to official requirements. Anything else is meaningless, as it is mostl...

The Windows 2000 extended core can eliminate the hardware limitations of Professional and the lesser servers. I'm using win2k pro on an HP Z600 Workstation with 12 GB DDR3-1333 and a Xeon X5670 (12 threads). Official NVIDIA drivers support up to the GeForce 400 series or Quadro 2000/4000/6000. For ...

Re: Does Windows XP have EFI?

As I understand it, all three 64-bit editions of Windows XP (64-bit Edition 2002, 64-bit Edition 2003, and x64) all support EFI. You can't run the IA64 version on your AMD64-based PC, but you can run the x64 version of Windows XP as long as your device drivers support it. Windows Vista, when it was ...

Re: Win2K Personal and XP/Server Separation

Yeah, but this actually makes me curious as to why they didn't make a "Windows XP Second Edition" or "Windows XP Version 2003" based on the Windows Server 2003 kernel. It would have been more advanced and stable, but just as compatible with almost everything, if they based the two later "XP" 64-bit ...

Re: Windows 10 Sucks

Windows 7 and Vista would be faster than Windows 10 yes. Windows 3.1 would also be faster than Windows 95. So what's your point? When i ran Windows 3.1 I had 8MB of RAM, now I have 64GB. I ran Windows 95 on 32MB of RAM I believe. So yeah, on a system that is decent with Windows 7 Windows 10 would b...

Re: Why Windows ME was released after Neptune project cancel

Got any reliable sources for that? Several of Microsoft's antitrust documents suggest this, but the names shift around a lot. "Asteroid" for example seems to have been rolled partially into Windows 2000 SP1 and partially into Windows XP. Windows NT 5.0 - Windows 2000 Windows NT "Asteroid" -> Window...

The Ultimate Win2K Rig

I've been thinking and I'm wondering what the ULTIMATE Windows 2000 rig would be, the most powerful hardware that could run it. I'd imagine it would run Windows 2000 Datacenter Server to access the most memory, but I'm curious about other things. Of course our memory ceiling is 64GB, but I'm not sur...

Windows 10 in my opinion is god awful. It's bloated, unfinished after 4 f***ing years of availability, and spyest of spywares. Why does Microsoft need my pictures? They're mine! Windows 8.1 was at least tolerable. My old computer with a 2.9 gigahertz Intel Celeron from 2013 and 4 gigabytes of ram b...

I think Windows 7 is probably the best choice, but Windows 10 indeed sucks for several reasons
1.) Pre-installed junk
2.) Privacy issues
3.) Bloated - very slow and a memory hog
