Re: Windows 10 fake startup sound origin

To get the Windows Vista/7 startup sound on Windows 10 you have to enable it in the Sound settings and then turn off Fast Startup. If I recall, it was disabled because Microsoft thought there wasn't much need to include a sound when the computer successfully started up when compared to stuff like er...

Re: Windows Whistler startup sound

Builds 2202-2481 uses the 2000 sounds by default. However, 2481 also included the final XP sounds. The final XP sounds would be used by default on build 2485. The fake sounds were never included in any build.

Re: Windows Server Longhorn Build 5356 Setup Error

Are you sure you're using VMware 6.x/7.x compatibility? Alongside, I recommend that you run diskpart before starting setup and create a partition by there; early post-reset LH builds tends to have problems with partitioning during setup.

Re: Why I can't install Windows 2000 Build 1964.1?

Aw, thanks man. But anyway installing this, it just freezee at Setup is starting Windows 2000. Please help me. Make sure you disable the ACPI if it isn't off. Most of the time, setup hanging at "Setup is starting Windows 2000" is a result of having ACPI on as these builds have early ACPI implementa...

Re: Longhorn 4039 stuck on activate windows screen.

First, check to see if you have added these lines in your VMX:

Code: Select all

time.synchronize.continue = "FALSE"
time.synchronize.restore = "FALSE"
time.synchronize.resume.disk = "FALSE"
time.synchronize.shrink = "FALSE"
time.synchronize.tools.startup = "FALSE"
Then reinstall.

Re: Installation Windows Longhorn 3718

Also, your model might be too new for Longhorn anyways. It is best to use a 2003 era computer for Longhorn instead of one that was from 2009. And yes, USB setup is not recommended for Longhorn.

Re: VMware Tools on Windows Longhorn Build 5098

Before you think about getting Aero on 5098/5112, you actually need a LDDM driver - the ones VMware provides are not LDDM and will not support Aero. You need actual real hardware to get Aero on 5098/5112. If you still want to get Tools anyways, I recommend using an older version of VMware (not compa...

Help Getting Aero on Windows 7 build 6730

I have tried both VirtualBox and VMware 15.0 for attempting to enable Aero on this build, but with no luck. Here's what happens when I attempt to install the drivers: VirtualBox : Guest Additions do not install fully (aborts when installing mouse driver), on reboot the graphic drivers fails to load ...

Re: Windows Longhorn 4039 (Lab06 n.030824-1954) setup hangs.

Do not bother upgrading from a previous build at this point. I have tested, almost all builds past 4029 requires to be clean installed or it hangs at that point while upgrading.

Re: I can't install Windows NT 5.0 Build 2072+ in VirtualBox

Just don't use VirtualBox or VMware for some of these Windows NT 5.0 betas. Use PCem or 86Box, they emulate a real machine from around the time these builds came out and thus have less problems. Alongside, you can also get the graphics card to work on all of these. Also, even if you could get it to ...

Re: Why is BANANA.ANI always broken?

The BANANA.ANI problem is actually a conflict with a device driver that is running, which is likely the CD-ROM driver. Using any boot disk that doesn't either doesn't use BANANA.ANI or have it renamed seems to have no problem.

Did you make sure that the VMware virtual machine had 5.x compatibility? 5231 will BSOD on VMware unless you're using older compatibility or an older version.

[GUIDE] The Starter's Guide to PCem and 86Box

Apparently, I am now seeing that many people are having a hard time getting the PCem family (PCem and 86Box) to be installed or run. This guide is meant to show how you will use this series of emulators. Using PCem or 86Box can help ease installation of DOS Windows and Windows 9x builds, but can als...

This birthday was a much better milestone for BA. Not only this year was when we hit 100TB, but also we got those great donations from viper, lots of new builds including a new Millennium build, and tons of new discoveries! Boy, things have changed since BA's launch or even a year ago.

Re: Windows Vista on Intel Pentium/Intel Pentium MMX

This is actually pretty interesting. Prior to v15, the farthest you could go was Longhorn 4093 (which I managed to install long ago), and build 3790.1232. I wonder how some of the post-reset builds will go. 5048 is the first build that requires ACPI, so maybe give that a try too. I wonder what is th...

Re: Windows Memphis Build 1400 installation on VmWare

Use 86Box or PCem, they emulate an older system so they are capable of installing Windows 9x builds with no problem. VMware tends to have problems when installing Windows 9x betas, especially if your host PC has an AMD processor and you're using VMware 14 or up. The Red Screen of Death error you're ...

There is actually a bug on 15xx builds where if you don't replace winsetup.bin with one from an earlier build or the RTM on some virtualization software, setup can crash.

I actually noticed this when installing 73g on PCem once. I recommend using a 386 BIOS with an AMD processor and 9MB RAM. I also prefer a Trident graphics card if you want 256 color and 1024x768 resolution and SB1 if you want sound. After setup, if it hangs at the boot screen, then hard reset, hold ...

If that error is that a driver file is missing, you need to install the DirectX runtime before loading 86Box.
