Re: List of Windows Versions

This just looks like the same old crap list that's been floating around these parts for over a decade now.

tl;dr it's largely junk.

on floppysets the propduct code is hardcodet inside WINSETUP.BIN it depends on the kind of floppyset (3.5-720, 514-1.2, 3.5-DMF) and sometimes also on the language if it is on floppy 2 or 3. in most case it is floppy 2 WINSETUP.BIN (from floopy) include the key eg U:26901-025-1123707 WINSETUP.BIN (...

Re: Windows 95 DESERVED a Full Retail CD-ROM edition!

Well like I said in a follow up post, types 5 and 6 are in fact exactly the same as type 2 (asks for a CD key but allows you to skip it, etc.). I haven't looked at pre-release builds though, so I don't know if these types used to behave differently in the past. If you have type 7 on a CD release tha...

I was just cleaning out my shelves and came across a copy of this very item. Anybody want it?
Would be cool if you could dump it according to the guidelines here. If not, then an at least an ISO would be appreciated. :)

Re: Windows 95 DESERVED a Full Retail CD-ROM edition!

It isn't unrelated. I had problems installing Base versions of all DOS/Windows from a network / cd install. The insert disk a: message comes from Setup, not from DOS. The "insert disk" message is completely unrelated, as I've explained, it happens because Setup wants the volume label of the disks t...

Re: Windows 95 DESERVED a Full Retail CD-ROM edition!

For example, if you install DOS 6.22 from a cdrom drive, and it's the full release, it will keep telling you to put disk 1 into drive a: and try again. This is completely unrelated to the topic, but happens because it expects the volume label of the disk to be "DISK", then six spaces, then "1", etc.

Re: Windows 95 DESERVED a Full Retail CD-ROM edition!

I see a lot of confusion and questionable information in this topic. I was going to eventually write a sort of guide on this based on my research, but I might as well post it here. Since I looked at a lot of Windows 95 installation media and also collected many as well, I'll try to clear things up a...

Re: Windows 95 OSR2 in Hebrew?

Given the 1997 copyright year, it wouldn't be wrong to assume it is indeed an OSR2 or later release. But since googling the part number doesn't seem to reveal anything related, I suppose the only way to make sure is to open it.

Also found an early build of WinPad with the associated Preliminary Development Kit (PDK) from September 1993. Disk 6, which contains debug binaries, is missing, but you can install and use WinPad without it. Download here.

I am suspecting some apps such as Calculator, Control Penal, Puzzle and Reversi already have background colors but because the driver is monochrome, they are simply displayed as different levels of "gray". I believe this is what we found out when we first looked at this a while ago - most of the ap...

This is the standard Windows 2000 timebomb for pretty much all builds since beta 3 or so IIRC. Also for the Neptune 5111.1 that we have.

The DDK before 3.0 was probably just part of the OAK with driver samples and such, as we can observe in 2.11 OAK. We really could use that either way, I agree.

It was most likely obtained after someone hacked Microsoft couple years ago. Other than that, I suppose more info on this should not be given in public on this forum.

This particular build of Cairo seems to have been demoed at PDC 93 along with Chicago build 73(g). But anyway, this was already posted back in 2008.

It looks like the difference between Cairo and regular NT may have been in simply using a switch when compiling or using a different script.

I'm quite surprised at how little interest the press has shown in this leak. As far as I can understand, it may be the most comprehensive MS source code leak ever. I guess because it is a really old version (and not even the final build of it) by now that not many are actually familiar with. Someth...

Nicely done. Based on file dates on the Alpha disk 4, it seems like it was a reused disk from something earlier than DR5. Windows 1.0 PE Disk #4: ?IDX018E.TMP 07/24/1985 02:56:42 PM 0 ?MSP01FE.TMP 07/24/1985 03:02:24 PM 13262 These just look like temporary files for Cardfile and Paint. Windows 1.0 P...
