Re: Should wiki editing be open to those without an account?

So you're saying that very few people are NOT trying to vandalize their wiki? And the majority of anonymous editors are? I'm saying that most of the anonymous edits on BetaWiki are low quality. There's maybe one or two regulars who actually make decent edits anonymously. The rest is either garbage ...

Re: Should wiki editing be open to those without an account?

Well, BetaWiki has allowed anonymous edits since the beginning, and from my observations, the number of people who edit anonymously and aren't trying to vandalize something can be counted on one hand. So the target user base for this is very small, in my opinion.

It's not corrupted, it's missing some files. I have a copy of it, thought I uploaded it already but I guess not? I'll upload it later today.

Re: Windows 1.0 Fall Comdex Build Text

You can find the full text here: https://www.degruyter.com/document/doi/ ... 78-039/pdf.

It doesn't really help with the build since they used this demo text in many early builds.

Here's a few interesting ones. I also uploaded the missing disk 1 of Windows for Workgroups 3.11 build 100 English, so that release is now complete. Windows NT 3.51 build 1037 Workstation This was a known leak, just only recovered now. Server edition remains to be found. Download here. https://www.b...

One file (MSMINCHO.TTC) is missing, apparently a japanese font or something. Setup doesn't complain (unless you choose the japanese regional settings, I suppose?).

[OFFER] WfW 3.1 Beta 1, NT 3.1 build 404 Advanced Server

Windows for Workgroups 3.1 Beta 1 This thing was made merely a month after Windows 3.1 release and calls itself both Sparta and Winball (as well as just plain Windows 3.1), but doesn't show any obvious build numbers anywhere. Inside WINBALL.DRV (renamed to WFWNET.DRV in later builds) is this about ...

I've tried to install Windows 2.03 on VMware but I have a problem: each time I want to boot an error message occur that my MS-DOS version is not supported but I seen on the Internet that some people had sucessed boot into Windows 2 on MS-DOS 6.22 and MS-DOS 7.1. The Nashville codename was reused for IE4 after Nashville the OS was already dead. Hence the Nashville Plus Pack branding of very early IE4 builds.

Re: Windows 95 C Actual Version Number

There's a few other minor updates included yeah, but the point was the base is OSR2 and telling people to check USER.EXE for these OSR2.1/2.5 versions is wrong.

Re: Windows 95 C Actual Version Number

If any of you actually checked USER.EXE etc., you'd see it's not where this version comes from. Because OSR2.1/2.5 are just OSR2 + USB supplement (+ IE4 for 2.5). And the USB supplement is provided separately on the disc, it's not integrated. Once you expand USBUPD2.EXE in the \other\updates\usb\ di...

Re: IDE CD-ROM Not Working in Windows NT 3.5 on 86Box?

You'll have to provide your config file so we can see if there's a problem there. Aside from that, you may also want to clear out the nvr and reconfigure the BIOS just in case something glitched out.

Re: Where are logo files stored in Windows 2.x?

In Windows 1.x and 2.x, they're originally contained as standalone files on the installation disks (usually the build disk) and are merged into WIN.COM (along with some other files) as part of the installation. In 1.x, both code and data for the bootscreen is contained in a single .LGO file. In 2.x,...

Re: NT build 196 from September 1991

Microsoft appears to have used the High Siera Format for their early CDs, yes (see October 1991 disc, or Bookshelf 1.0 disc from 1987). HSF is a predecessor of ISO9660 and was fairly quickly replaced by it, so nowadays many programs are oblivious to it. If the December 1991 disc we have is an origin...
