How can I open a Longhorn BAML file?

Hi, I'm currently exploring Longhorn build 4086 (the Lab01 one) with .NET Reflector, and I saw a lot of BAML files in the Microsoft.Windows.WCPClient.dll file, named taskbar.baml, desktopaurora.baml and many others. I have tried a BAML plugin for Reflector and also tried ILSpy and none of them worke...

Re: Which build of Windows Longhorn is the best for my Pentium M laptop?

I have two Pentium M notebooks, one is a Banias (1st gen.) Pentium M, the other is a Dothan (2nd gen.) Pentium M. The notebooks have both PATA HDDs. I think that pretty much all Longhorn builds could work on them, I've tested a lot (both pre and post reset) and they all installed successfully (I ran...

Longhorn build 4083 x64 display driver

Hello, I've installed the AMD64 compile of Longhorn build 4083 on VMware, the VM OS is set to be Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, I've set 6.5-7.x compatibility mode and I'm desperately trying to install the 6.5.2 display driver. The VMware Tools installer doesn't work, I can't set any compatibi...

I think this is the one I've installed more than once in my Windows 95 laptop:

Re: Longhorn as a main OS?

I have a laptop from 2003 where I've tested a lot of Longhorn builds, I ended up installing build 4029.Lab06_n in the first partition. After disabling WinFS, Windows Messenger and Outlook Express from the Windows Component Wizard (just to clean a few useless stuff up), the OS started to run as smoot...

Re: New vs old taskbar in 4002 (and maybe more)

I used the new taskbar in build 4001. I believe you have to right click in the sidebar, and then select new taskbar. Also, I think the new taskbar is also present in build 3718, and it looks just like build 4001's.

Re: Annoying message on NT 5.0 Build 1902

Happened to me too in build 1877. I think it was impossible to get rid of it? Like, were there any buttons you could click on that message? And even if you clicked them, the message still appeared at every reboot? Btw maybe you can see if you can disable the message by modifying some network-related...

Re: Windows 2000 Pro Greek How to create bootable iso

I might have an idea, not sure if it's going to work, but here's what I've thought: get a Windows 98 or Windows Me boot disk image. Open that .iso file with UltraISO or something similar. I use UltraISO, what I do there is clicking on the option "Load Boot File..." and select the boot disk image. Yo...

Would it be possible to extract the drivers like, with WinRAR or 7-Zip, and then install them through a .INF file via the Device Manager?

I think nowhere because if I remember correctly Windows Powered was never distributed like other Windows 2000 variants. I think you have to install something on Windows 2000 Server or Advanced Server in order to get your copy of Windows 2000 converted to Windows Powered. But I can't remember what, t...

Re: Whistler 2223 stuck at Setup is starting Windows 2000

Make sure that every kind of hardware virtualization technology is disabled. You can check it from the virtual machine's properties. Also, I don't know which version of VMware Player you are using, but you could try lowering the virtual machine's hardware compatibility.

Re: What's the Windows Whistler that have first Luna theme?

I think that we don't have any other answer apart from 2415. All I know is, I've read that Microsoft had been silently working on Luna since some time during the development of Whistler, and that the Watercolor theme was used just as a placeholder, in order to distract testers from what was going to...

Re: Windows Memphis Build 1400 installation on VmWare

No, certainly don't use 12 years old virtualization software. Virtual PC 2007 deserves to rest in peace. I respect your opinion but on Windows 7 and on a 6th gen. Core i3 it still does the job quite well. It may suck for most NT 5.0 builds and some Windows 95 builds, but it's still an useful tool, ...

Re: Windows Memphis Build 1400 installation on VmWare

About the so called "red screen of death", you have to disable APM, ACPI and whatever form of power management it is. Also, make sure to disable hardware virtualization. The main problem by the way is that running older OSes such as Memphis or Windows 95 on programs like VMware on a modern PC is bec...

Re: Where is Windows 2000 still being used?

It's being used on my Intel Atom N270-based netbook, where it runs very smoothly. But I've been quite lazy and I still have to install most of the drivers, since the official ones throw some annoying error because I'm not using Windows XP. I just have the audio and video drivers installed and I stil...

Re: Disk read error

So you extracted the drivers and slipstreamed them... well if Windows 2000 detected the hard drive after all it shouldn't be a SATA problem, since it would have thrown a BSOD now that I think about it. Btw Windows 2000 has something like a partition limit of 137 GB I think, and you allocated that wh...

Interesting question, I've wondered the same but never looked up for a solution online. Re: Debombing Windows 8 build 7850

I've heard that 7850 has a broken timebomb... does it really need to be fixed? Btw you can remove the timebomb by using the spp folder from either the activator itself or from a Windows 7 installation I guess, and copying it to 7850's install.wim, after having deleted the old spp folder.
