Re: Windows 95 DESERVED a Full Retail CD-ROM edition!

ATAPI is standard, so at least for Data CD's, any ATAPI driver should work on any drive. The problem is that there's also SCSI CD-ROM drives, as well as proprietary ones (Panasonic, Matsushita, etc.), which complicates the making of a boot disk. By the time of Windows 98, the most common setup was a...

Re: List of Windows Versions

These builds never existed. Some of them, sure. But quite a few of them (the two 2.03's, the three 3.10 English builds, 3.10.123 and 3.10.142 Chinese, the four 3.11.0xx Snowball (Windows for Workgroups 3.11), and Windows for Workgroups 3.10.2.001) are not that implausible, and might as well have ex...

In the 90's, there was the tendency that, if you weren't knowledgeable enough, you called a technician to install things for you.

Re: Windows 3.1.034b

Yeah, I later downloaded the Japanese one and noticed it has the English 3.10.034b SHELL.DLL. This actually proves that WinPC was right and I was wrong about what logo the About box in 3.10.034e would have, since it's safe to assume it would have the same one as 034b. Though, on the other hand, give...

[Request] STB Velocity 3D Video BIOS...

This is a Virge/VX card with 8 MB video memory. I'm looking for its BIOS so I can try adding it to 86Box (we already emulate the Virge/VX but with the Diamond Stealth 3000 BIOS, which is limited to 4 MB video memory) and seeing if I can break the 4 MB video memory limit with it. So I would greatly a...

Re: New informations (and photos) on Windows 1.00 Pre-DR5 !

Going by the "we" in the bottom of the second paragraph, this would mean the magazine was written by Microsoft themselves, and I am not aware of them running any magazine of their own. Also notable is the use of abbreviations such as "aren't", while an actual magazine at the time would have used for...

Re: Windows 3.2 "Red China" might be a beta

From what I remember, the "Red China" build was the one circulating around in the days of the original OSBA, and likely originated on Chinese sites. Given that Chinese warez releases often included pre-release builds (see 3.10.141 Traditional Chinese and PC DOS 6.1 Traditional Chinese beta), this al...

Re: Question about Windows 3.1 display capablities

The S3 and Vision serie of cards have Win 3.1 drivers, the Diamond S3 Vision964 ones can do even 1152x864x32bpp non-interlaced. 86Box emulates a Diamond S3 Vision964 card, both VLB and PCI, so try that.
