Was there something ment to be in the longhorn taskbar

Does anyone know why there is a big gap between the start button and the open programs on the taskbar when the sidebar is enabled on some builds?

They start centered then get pushed to the sides, for wide screen it has some logic
to start centered raather to go all the way left, see how osx has made their panel,
it resizes but also from middle

The centered taskbar items were an attempt to improve the user experience. The general idea was that centering the items would reduce average mouse travel, but this idea was dropped along the way. Beginning with milestone 7 builds this 'feature' completely disappeared together with the plex theme. There are, however, quite a bunch of Aero themed concepts that still feature the centered taskbar buttons, indicating that at least the UX division was still considering it as an option.
