What's the latest IE to run on Neptune?

Post by beta.a.brian »

Since IE6 doesn't work(normally),maybe IE5.5 or later could work without killing most of the OS?

Why are you making huge amount threads? If you want to try, you should download Neptune, and IE from oldapps.com

Neptune already has an early build of IE5.5, so you're pretty much stuck with that.

IIRC, someone managed to get IE6 working without breaking all the HTML UI stuff in Neptune, but I don't think they ever revealed the exact procedure, so might as well be a load of bs.

According to the BetaArchive wiki, 5.5 SP2 is the final version:

Because Neptune was NT-based, I think you'll need the Windows 2000 version.

I have the original Microsoft installer here (only 8.6MB); just unzip and execute ie5setup.exe: http://sdfox7.com/ie/win32/IE55SP2_2K.ZIP

If you don't mind me asking, why exactly do you want to do this? Personally I would just run the latest version of Firefox that Neptune supports. (I think version 10 works, released 2012, should work much better than IE6) But obviously it depends on the context.
