[REQ] Mainframe operating systems

Post by pool7 »

Hope this isn't against the rules, but if it is, please feel free to close/delete the thread.

I recently grew an interest in Mainframes and I'm currently looking for some/most of the OS's that ran on these beasts.
Any and all versions are welcome, but mostly looking for the following (higher priority first):

TPF 4.1
AIX/ESA
ALCS 2.3.1
ALCS 2.4.1
Fujitsu MSP
Hitachi VOS3
VSE/ESA 2.7 (ADCD)
ACP 9.2
z/VSE 3.1 (ADCD)
z/VM 3.1 (ADCD)
z/VM 4.4 (ADCD)
z/TPF
MVS/XA
MVS/ESA
MVS/ESA OpenEdition
AIX/370

seconded! Especially the ADCD distributions would be welcome. Everything you find on the 'net is just preinstalled disk images of z/OS etc.

BTW you did notice that there's an OS/400 on BA already, right? It's not directly a "Mainframe OS" but the concepts are similar (though there's no emulator out there for the AS400, and there probably will never be one)
I upload stuff to archive.org from time to time. See here for everything that doesn't fit BA

Yup; I've seen ISOs of a Demopkg (labeled as ADCD, but it's not) of OS/390 V2R10, as well as VM/ESA 2.4 ADCD.
There's also files corresponding to ADCD of z/OS 1.10

I found some more on P2P, but not being actively shared.

I did notice the OS/400, but as you mention it's not mainframe, there's no emulator that I know of, and it's in German which I don't know :P

PS: Glad to know I'm not the only one interested :)

Burn the iso and unzip the ckd files. Use the config file as a sample to start

*** WARNING ***
For an unknown reason Hercules 3.02 cannot start the DB2 V8. DB8GDBM1 gets an S0C1.
You have to install the 3.03 CVS version to circumvent this problem.
To install it, follow the instructions on the Hercule page http://www.conmicro.cx/hercules/
Anyway it is the only problem I had with 3.02. The 3.03 CVS is rock stable

Have fun

Definitely interested in the z/OS 1.5 ADCD ISOs! :)
I found it in the mule, but no one is sharing (not actively anyway).
If you don't mind uploading them somewhere, I'd really really appreciate it.

It would indeed be great to save these on the FTP for the future.

Please send them up and I'll make them available to the members. Please pack them up though to avoid undetected corruption etc.

Hello, excuse me the delay : it has been imposible to upload before.
Now i would try to upload them.
Dani

Ah,a friend has told me he maybe could found "VM/ESA 2.40" (I dont know the age of this version, but i know it is
the same as VMDOS,VMVSE... ) which could be considerated a "recorted" version of z/OS for smaller busisness.

I am looking z/VM (The hypervisor) for trying to install Linux and this OS on them.

You can try contacting mrpijey via PM and see if he has another place you can upload.
Alternatively, you can upload somewhere else (ie. mega, 4shared, etc) and ask someone to download/upload to BA's FTP (I can do it, though my upload speed is not very good and will take a while).

I have some of those on the list as well as a few others and would like to upload them.
Can I put them on the FTP despite lacking the photographic evidence?

Yes, as long as you label each release properly according to BA standards.

Me again, excuse me for so many "problems".I have tried the same program (cyberduck) and i had the same problem i had yesterday.
(Filezilla doesnt work ) and i decided tried "fireftp" a pluggin for firefox (the same when i did the first test here,at home).
Maybe the problems i had yesterday was these.Anyway i am going to upload now the files it can during the night from v1.5 .
I have seen the directories from the_doctor and anonim.I saw the file anonim upload with a dir called done and i am trying to download (but it is too slow also).

Also i had other problem : it doesnt let me create a dir and i upload two files to the / when i tried to move the full dir from my pc.
i ask the admin excuse me and delete this 2 files.

If you're uploading to the FTP "anonymously" (ie. without having your own user), you can't rename or delete files; you can only upload.
Also, you can't download from the uploads; if you want to download, you'll have to wait until you get your user as well as wait until the uploads are approved and moved to the corresponding area of the FTP.

Firefox? Why are you using firefox? You're supposed to use an FTP client.

Also, PM me and I'll give you FTP login to my private server for the uploads.
