I installed Windows Longhorn 4039 on Virtualbox 4.3.28, but the colour looked dreadful, so I tried installing guest additions under Windows XP compatibility mode, but whenever I go to Properties (VBoxWindowsAdditions-x86), it won't let me go to Other Properties, where compatibility mode options are. It works fine in the builds before as well.
As an example, here's build 4029:
Now here's 4039:
Can't use Virtualbox VM Additions on Windows Longhorn 4039
Re: Can't use Virtualbox VM Additions on Windows Longhorn 40
1. Don't use VirtualBox. VBox is only good for builds starting from 5381+. Anything earlier won't work correctly, especially pre-reset ones. Use VMware. You can even get aero glass in VMware -for this one check out http://longhorn.ms/desktop-compositing
2.VM additions aren't even meant for pre-release OSes. 4039 is only an alpha, plus it's pre-reset. Extract the driver and install it manually instead.

Why do people never understand: VBox is not good for such builds? It's like the 1000000th time I see the same mistake

In VirtualPC 2007 is good for this build, just install it, then the additions, I think it opens automatically (autorun), its been working the times I have done it, when its finished, restart, and there you go

I would like to personally object on that first point. While it's true for pre-reset builds, it's certainly not true for post-reset, especially 5342. However, I would sincerely advise the OP to not use Virtualbox for anything past 4008 until 4093. Try using VMware Player/Workstation or Microsoft Virtual PC instead.ovctvct wrote:1. Why do you not get that these builds work perfectly in VirtualBox once you install the drivers, the inability to install them on 4039 is due to a bug in 4039, not VBox.ovctvct wrote:Offtopic CommentWhy do people never understand: VBox is not good for such builds? Thanks for the help. Sorry if it sounded like a stupid question BTW, I'm slightly new to this beta stuffovctvct wrote:1. Don't use VirtualBox. VBox is only good for builds starting from 5381+.
