I have been trying to install a lot of Longhorn builds in VMware Workstation 11 lately. Some are very successful, while the M3 and M4 builds are not.
To be specific, when I start the setup, it loads normally until the bootscreen (M4) or 'Setup is loading Windows' (M3). At that point, there seems to be no activity. However, after a while, I get this lovely, obscure BSoD: (It's obscure because of its parameters, not because of its situation.)
I have tried starting it with various compatibility modes and modifying the hardware of the offending VMs, but they all lead to the same result. Is there anything I can do to avoid this BSoD? Oddly enough, 3683's setup program is exempt from all of this, while 3706-4008's setup programs are not.

Try removing the PCIbridgex devices from the vmx file.

Actually, I forgot to mention that I already did so. Sorry.

This happened to me when I tried to install 4042 in VMWare, but 4066 worked when I installed it once

Try installing with 6.5-7.x compatibility using Server 2003 Enterprise Edition pre-set. This has always worked very well for me.

Can I modify the RAM and the no. of CPU's in the config? I'll do it tomorrow since it's 11:51PM for me here.

Better not touch the amount of cores, last time I did change that it broke after copying files. You should be able to allocate as much RAM as you want just fine.
