PC Open Magazine - some Microsoft beta pictures

Post by DiskingRound »

I found scans of an Italian magazine called PC Open on Archive.org. I searched them for the word "beta" and got interesting results pictured here.
-Windows Memphis Beta 1 - Build unknown
Looks like a build in the 15xx range to me.

-Windows 98 RC0 Italian - Build 1691
They provide a picture of the CD of this in the cover as well as in one of the pages:

Leaked, but a scan wouldn't hurt? :)
-Windows 98 Beta 3 Italian - Build 1650

Picture 2 has a picture of the disc. So most (if not all) the builds I've shown here are leaked, but it's nice to see them in a magazine and even better to have disc pictures in a magazine.
-Windows 2000 Beta 3
The issue is from September 1999, apparently these magazines receive builds a bit late...

-Windows Millennium Beta 3
This is my favorite beta article published by this mag. They feature a picture of the CD of this build.

Interestingly, there seems to be a few screenshots with a build tag on the desktop, but I couldn't make a whole lot from it as the pics are low res.

-Microsoft Office 10 Beta 2
The following page shows an article about Microsoft Office 10 Beta 2. No build given, but I determined it's Beta 2 from the doc that's open. So it could be build 2202.11, the official Beta 2 build, but I have yet to confirm this.

-Windows Whistler Beta 1 - Most likely Build 2296
First of all, we've got a picture of the CD of Whistler 2296 Personal:

Then we got screenshots of the actual build.

-Windows Whistler/XP Beta 2

If anyone else is interested, they should check here. Archive.org has a great library of the PC Open magazine.

Just realized Whistler 2296 Personal CD scans are on the FTP (still thanks to marcoguy for uploading the disc). Now, it seems the only one that remains unseen is the RC0 Italian CD (and possibly the unmarked builds that could be leaked or unleaked, who knows).

I found more Microsoft beta stuff in the magazine scans and I'll be editing this post if they're of interest although I'm not sure if they're already known here.
Open the pod bay doors... Let's start with
-Windows 98 Beta 3 Italian - Build 1650
Added to main post.
Edit: I also found some final MS software articles. Are they interesting too?

Sorry about double post, but I've added
-Microsoft Office 10 Beta 2
to the main post. I will also provide some "bonus material" in this topic related to RTM software and small news bits related to both betas and RTM software with no actual screenshots. Here's one:
-News related to Windows Whistler: Autumn 2001 release?
Image
Later expect a long article about Windows Me Final, although I couldn't upload all the images, I kept getting 500 (Internal Server Error) errors.
I'd just like to ask a question here: Is anyone still reading this?
