Re: [Offer] Novell UnixWare Application Server 1.1
does it work in PC/Bochs?
Re: [Offer] Novell UnixWare Application Server 1.1
According to the documentation it will need ancient SCSI(Adaptec or IBM/PS2)/MCA/ESDI controllers. I will try to install it on real hw soon.roytam1 wrote:does it work in PC/Bochs?
Tape support is limited to Archive and Wangtek.

It can be run in Bochs. When you make a dd copy of an UnixWare tape you get a datastream package. You can turn this package into a set of install floppies using pkgtrans (this is a standard SVR4 command), so you don't need a SCSI drive to run it. If you want to install in real hardware you'll need about 70 floppies or 140 with development system.wbyte wrote:According to the documentation it will need ancient SCSI(Adaptec or IBM/PS2)/MCA/ESDI controllers. Actually Adaptec 1542 SCSI controller was recognized by the installer and with Archive Viper tape drive I was able to install the product.ManelAL wrote:roytam1 wrote:does it work in PC/Bochs?It can be run in Bochs. Yes, you can use this adapter in real hardware. I used this controller with a Panther 250Si tape drive in order to install UnixWare 1.0 and UnixWare 1.1 several years ago. But now, a PC with ISA16 slots is very hard to find. In a modern PC you can also use the Adaptec 2940uw if your motherboard only have PCI slots.wbyte wrote:Actually Adaptec 1542 SCSI controller was recognized by the installer and with Archive Viper tape drive I was able to install the product.
In Bochs you can't emulate a SCSI streamer so if you want to install UnixWare 1.x in a virtual machine you'll need to make a floppy disc set from the dd of the streamer.
