Windows 98 SE Update

Post by veso266 »

Hi in windows 98 Second Edition there is an update option so my qestion is did windows 98 update itself regulary like 2000 and earlier? Or you had to install it manualy into?

If it was updating regulary, which server microsoft used to send updates to (I wonder if I could change this and provide my own updates to it(not my own just those that microsoft made it))

Best Regards and Thanks for Answering

I'm assuming you're talking about the so called "Critical Update Notification Utility". According to Wikipedia (feel free to crucify me), this was released shortly after Windows 98 (First Edition, that is). It was served to users via the already-established Windows Update website (since 1995).

You probably had to get Windows 98 with SE or get the upgrade disk for Windows 98 FE.

Windows 98SE did used to download updates, like Windows 2000, XP, etc, but microsoft turned that feature off.
