Opinions on Build 9926? (Windows 10)

Post by Skora »

I'm personally a huge fan of what Microsoft brought to the table with this build, cortana on the desktop, revamped UI, increased speed, and more stability in my experience.

What do you guys think?

I agree, looks good, Cortana should be great and the xbox app is interesting, what needs to happen is to support Xbox 360 games, as some people don't have Xbox One.

Even though this is such an early build, I'm really amazed of how much faster it is compared to 8.1, even on older/less capable hardware.

Cortana = Nope, I don't want it!

W10 UI = It's still flat and ugly.
Half-Life is a pretty good game.

As they say, to each their own. I prefer the Metro interface, even more than Aero. It also uses much less system resources.

I'm still not a fan of the "modern" look they are going for. I think Aero was the best visual design to come from Microsoft, and at this point, probably will be the best they will ever make. I also think that the title bar looks awful, hopefully it can at least look like Windows 8 by the time it is released.

Both are nice IMO, although I would really like to see a least a little transparency on the taskbar....

Windows 10 just sucks for me. The icons look AWFUL, the start menu can be glitchy, Cortana FAILS on my PC, and it's just bad!

In my experience there's a significant performance difference.

In my opinion, I see no problem with the icons, metro UI, and XAML start menu. Sure, the icons may look like powerpoint creations done in a few minutes, but as long as the rest of the OS feels and looks OK it is fine. I even sometimes use my VMWare VM as an OS for watching YouTube videos and posting here as well. But again, that's just my opinion.

In my opinion, the ui just went worse than Windows 8 in Windows 10.

Ah yes I recognize you from WinWorldPC.

What they've done with the UI is incredible IMO, I never imagined it to look how it currently does in build 9926, and I'm looking forward to see what comes of it in the future.

I'm very excited, especially since I have a Windows Phone.

you can say the same comparing with using win7 "aero" vs Vista "aero" (RTM, no SP's)
yet UI has nothing to do with it, nor skin itself (try it and you'll know why i mentioned this)

the what you people call resource usage, goes on blur alone - ala Pixel Shader 2 usage
the PNG glossy resources have nothing to do on system impact
you can have divine aqua/gloss skin or fugly metro flat crap - makes no difference
DWM and GPU is all that matters, and GPU usage mostly went on that blur (as stupid as it sounds)

It can. It depends on your system.
Personally the difference isn't significant despite the weak graphics for me.
But it could be for others.
For instance , I have seen a significant cut on CPU temperatures and noise output(the laptop gets very hot , and I believe it is due to Aero. Also others have reported with the same problem) on Windows 10 on a laptop from Windows 7 with Aero.

It also generally improves battery life , on that reasoning Microsoft cut Aero from Windows 8.

Anyway , I prefer Aero to Metro personally.

I don't like the icons, and Windows 10 has a very flat UI....I wish Microsoft change that in next builds....and put aero in next builds too...

This really amazes me. Microsoft didn't cut aero. They just cut transparency/blur/translucency and redesigned the UI to look like windows 3.1. Really, you're ALL using aero, as everyone is forced to utilize DWM composition. Which is basically what aero is. In windows 8+ however, DWM is optimized MUCH better than Vista or 7's DWM, (because it is expected to run on tablets with next to junk graphics) and they cut off all the juicy stuff, which is the performance increase you guys get, and the decrease in resource use.
Anyways, I didn't like Windows past 7989. Windows 10 hits the spot for me. Flat, junk UI. Lets all go back to CGA's because that's what windows is looking like right now.
Oh wait, I doubt a CGA will handle DWM window composition. I really don't get why a revival of ancient graphics is 'modern'.

I'd be nice if Microsoft just had both themes, and let people choose what they want. I'll be happy as long as there is a way to hack back in the Aero glass in Windows 10, after it is stable.

Honestly IMO that'd be a worse design concept than 8.

However that being said, I would like to see a least a slight amount of transparency on the taskbar, or have the option to add it but I wouldn't want it to be "glassy" like 7.

what concept ?
they screwed the concept in very start when they merged tablet and desktop UI

something MS will never learn, is to give user A CHOICE !

No need to yell.

Listen, if they did use that design concept, what would they do for the rest of the UI?

It would be a broken garbled mess, the same or even worse than Windows 8 was. This is my opinion.
