Windows Media Center 2005 - labels question

Post by johnye_pt »

I was googling about other versions of Windows Media center 2005 when I found a closed topic right here in the requests section, where someone mentions the following labels:

MRMPFPP_EN / MRMPOEM_EN
MX2PFPP_EN / MX2POEM_EN

I know about MX2PFPP_EN (Windows Media Center 2005 CD1), MRMSD2_EN (Windows Media Center 2005 CD2) and MA2SPFPP_EN (Windows Media Center 2005 Update Rollup 2), all 3 on MSDN. Do the other labels really exist? I ask because I'm finding it weird that CD1 and CD2 from MSDN have so different labels...

MRMPFPP_EN is SP2.
MX2PFPP_EN is SP2b.

Thanks!

So the original CDs must have been MRMPFPP_EN + MRMSD2_EN, but then Microsoft replaced MRMPFPP_EN (SP2) for MX2PFPP_EN (SP2b), leaving the CD2 untouched. After another Google session I found out OEM versions also exist. How else would HP and others distribute MCE 2005 on their computers? Duuuhhh

EDIT: xdeltas to FPP<->OEM for both MRM and MX2, can't get any easier than this!

It's a diff file, with the appropriate program, you need to patch the older file and you get the newer, it saves time and bandwidth and it is easy, you have an xdelta package on the ftp in the authoring tool folder if I remember correctly. This is how I got the complete set of XP discs.

The xdeltas in the link I mentioned have .iso extension instead of .vcdiff so they might be misleading, but they work nonetheless. The resulting OEM ISOs have extra empty bytes at the end, removing them results in the correct ISOs.

MA2SPOEM_EN.ISO, 30.494.720 bytes, 8028781FB16D9306B57C03A6FD92FD6498243737 / FFFFFFFF, hex(0x833D) = E4
CDI_252P.EXE -j1 -xx -g228 -t8/8/2005,12 -lMA2SPOEM_EN FOLDER en_winxp_mce_2005_update2_oem.iso

MRMPOEM_EN.ISO, 608.456.704 bytes, 3FC80E66B19A8A8862DB1AFF539F0401890CE538 / FFFFFFFF, hex(0x833D) = E4
CDI_252P.EXE -nt -o -xx -bBOOTXP0.IMG -g228 -t8/10/2004,12 -lMRMPOEM_EN FOLDER en_winxp_mce_2005_cd1_sp2_oem.iso

MX2POEM_EN.ISO, 616.327.168 bytes, 05298EC87BCED277AF3CE82A5EC5FB2F4005C015 / FFFFFFFF, hex(0x833D) = E0
CDI_252P.EXE -nt -o -xx -bBOOTXP0.IMG -g224 -t3/15/2006,12 -lMX2POEM_EN FOLDER en_winxp_mce_2005_cd1_sp2b_oem.iso

EDIT: I use BOOTXP0.IMG as the boot file because up to XP SP2, all ISOs use the same boot code.
