Using Windows ME in 2014
Using Windows ME in 2014
I installed Office XP SP3,WMP9, Firefox 8.0, the compatibility pack for Office 2007 with KernelEx on it so far and I can even browse my email with it. But I could never get Office 2003 to work, tried beta versions as well with no result and KernelEx installed. Any ideas?

I'm wondering if I could install Office 2003, IE7, WMP10 on it using some hacks or whatever.

Re: Using Windows ME in 2014
I think solution to your Office 2003 issue is right in your image. Setup is trying to call a function in ADWAPI32.DLL, and sadly the dll currently present doesn't contain the function. I'd try replacing that with an xp one, but that can lead to the dll calling functions in other dlls, and you may end up right where you started, except with several other system dlls.

It says "Error, the specified file is in use by Windows" I'll replace it ASAP with a Windows 98 boot disk anyway.yourepicfailure wrote:I think solution to your Office 2003 issue is right in your image. EDIT: Nope, it gets me this:
Maybe the XP version doesn't work because it's too new. I will try the 2000 and Neptune 5111 one. Anyway, I'm trying to install the Beta 1 version not RTM because it's closer to Office XP.

You were explained why it doesn't work.

No, "it's too new" justifies what I said about the dll calling functions that aren't in ME's dlls. 2k may work because I've personally seen (and used) it on 2000. Still, Neptune and 2k are based on Nt, so they may not work either.ovctvct wrote:Maybe the XP version doesn't work because it's too new. I will try the 2000 and Neptune 5111 one. Best bet is to just probably go with 2k. It's much more stable than Me and is far more compatible with modern programs than Me. Even got chrome working.

Look at this link for office 2003: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/837130 and office 2003 is compatible with windows 2000 sp3 or later.

I know about that, but I want to hack it or whatever to get it working in ME.Archenemy wrote:Look at this link for office 2003: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/837130 and office 2003 is compatible with windows 2000 sp3 or later.

IE7 will not work on Windows Me. Maybe Beta will work, but it's hard to say.
My wanted stuff (original media):
Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2000 SP4 (aka SP1a)

Have at it, Hoss.
Re: Using Windows ME in 2014
No IE7 Beta (and IE7 final) runs on Windows 2000 so it will not run on ME for sure.Nashville wrote:IE7 will not work on Windows Me. Maybe Beta will work, but it's hard to say.
During IE7 development support for Windows 2000 and lower as excluded at the beginning.
Re: Using Windows ME in 2014
I used that and found the missing functions, there are only 2 for this version(Beta 1),fortunately those functions don't require any more missing or NT specific files and functions. Now how can I port them from the Windows 2000 or XP dll to the Windows Me one (as that program only follows them, doesn't add/remove functions)? Obviously, as pointed above, I'm trying to install the Beta 1(http://www.betaarchive.com/wiki/index.p ... 4523%20%20)version of Office 2003, as I found out that the Beta 2 one already requires more missing functions than the Beta 1.user99672 wrote:http://www.dependencywalker.com/ovctvct wrote:I know about that, but I want to hack it or whatever to get it working in ME.

I can't believe you took that seriously. Man you're dedicated to something that's gonna receive little use. What functions are these, if I may ask?ovctvct wrote:I used that and found the missing functions, there are only 2 for this version(Beta 1),fortunately those functions don't require any more missing or NT specific files and functions. You shouldn't be so sure of yourself...you should only claim such statements as facts once you know it works. It can be installed if you manage to do some minor hacking actually.bartekwalasek wrote:Office 2003 is impossible to install...

Re: Using Windows ME in 2014
You could /try/ to modify SETUP.EXE so that it calls a wrapper DLL which calls a copy of ADVAPI32 that has said functions I guess...
As for the approach, can't help ya there.

The problem is which program to use to edit SETUP.EXE.user99672 wrote:You could /try/ to modify SETUP.EXE so that it calls a wrapper DLL which calls a copy of ADVAPI32 that has said functions I guess...

A DLL Intercept Program like my DLLHOOK could Stub out these Functions.
