Windows 95 Updates

Post by paul1678 »

Hi. I looking for all possible to get updates for Windows 95. I mean updates like Shell32, Service Pack 1, OLE32 update, security etc. etc. After some time it's harder to get. I know that on Microsoft FTP is all files, but they are put in one folder together with many other files, not like sometime before where was win95 separated folder. Maybe someone got all that types of fixes, or know site which got all of them ? Thanks in advance.

There is a package called the Unofficial Windows 9x / ME Service Pack. It's probably your best bet for keeping the operating system up to date. I used another variant for Windows 98 SE inside a virtual machine and it worked without any problems.

Windows 95: http://erpman1.tripod.com/w9xmeupd.html
Windows 98: http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details ... _pack.html

As a bonus, you can add a package called "KernelEx" to enable to installation of certain programs made for Windows 2000/XP.

I know some other members have said to check out mdgx.com for updates for older versions of windows. I've never actually downloaded anything from there so I can't say exactly what they have or if it is legit.

Windows Update did work to some extent with Windows 95 back in the day, but now it no longer works for any 9x version.

You should be able to find everything you need at MDGx.com, specifically on THIS page.

Note that MDGx.com has not been updated in a couple of years for Windows 95/98/ME, so there are a handful of unofficial update packages now available that did not exist then or that have been updated. My FIX95CPU processor bug fix has been updated since the version hosted by MDGx, and my XUSBSUPP package for Windows 95 is not listed. It replaces all Microsoft USB updates for 95 and also replaces the "USBSTR95" package linked by MDGx. Both of these are linked in my signature if you need/want them.

If there are any specific updates you cannot find post here and I will try to help you.

Official updates are also provided, not everything is unofficial. They are clearly marked as such.

I understand perfectly your desire to collect all original fixes, and I have made effort to do so myself. However there have been many, many unofficial fixes for various Windows 9x versions. Many correct bugs, expand functionality, or address other issues that Microsoft was too lazy to fix themselves. So don't knock the unofficial fixes, they also have great value.
