Is there any Commodore 64 Abandonware?

Post by alcid34 »

And also, is there any beta games or applications for this particular machine?

Tons and tons. But nothing we keep here yet. But I got thousands of apps and games for C64 that will some day be released... I am looking into what old systems and consoles we can safely release games for.

@Jan4V: You DO realize that Commodore didn't write all C64 games themselves, right? There are also games made/published by Activision, for example, which is a company still very much alive today (as part of Blizzard)

I upload stuff to archive.org from time to time. See here for everything that doesn't fit BA

Well, my concern isn't about that, i doubt Activision will make much fuss about a game made in the early 80's. But I don't want to open Pandora's box here by releasing abandonware of older systems because then I have to release it all, and I don't have space nor time at the moment to release such vast amounts. We do however keep any betas for these systems, but not abandonware. Not yet anywhere.

Sorry, my comment was aimed at Jan4V, not at you. Should have made that more clear.

Sorry for the confusion

Yes, I do, but still I dont think anyone cares about C64... Its like abandonware, its not legal(at least in Slovakia) but no one cares...

Commodore went defunct in 1994, so I'd say that the all of the games for the C64 are abandonware (though there may be some die-hard Commodore fans that program and release games for the system today). I doubt any company is going to lose sleep over a C64 copy of Jet Set Willy circulating the web.
But what do I know?

Technically, everything that wasn't made in the past ten years or so that is copyrighted might count as abandonware...
