Chicago 58 errors/problems on VmWare

I have a few problems with running Chicago 58 on VmWare Workstation.

• Using DOS 6.21 , running Setup gives a 'General Protection Error' and that there is no HIMEM.SYS.
  Even if it installs , it appears to stay stuck at the bootscreen after the first restart.

Why does this happen? Are these problems VmWare-specific?
I've configured the VM to run with 1GB RAM.

VMware isn't really ideal for running the very early Chicago builds.

I would use VPC2007 for Chicago builds.

Well, it should run in VMWare, however you gave the VM too much RAM. I'd say, use 32 MB at most for early Chicago.

Just three things:

1. Don't go above 64MB RAM for these builds. They don't co-operate well with more.

2. You must use the VGA driver.

3. Set the VM compatibility to 'Workstation 5.5 Mode'.

Okay , I deleted the partitions and created a 2.9 GB partition(I think only 2048 was used) using FDISK and FORMAT respectively. After running the setup , now this happens(RAM size was decreased to about 120MB)

1. It did not boot past the first stage by itself.
   Using Windows 98 SE to run Windows(using WIN) got an error that the DOS version was invalid.
   Using DOS 6.21 said that there was no HIMEM.SYS.

What should I do now?(Confused what could I have done something wrong this time)

120MB is still too much RAM.

Chicago 58s has the 2 GB (2048 MB) limit that DOS has for HDDs.
