Windows XP Preview Disc [October 2001]
Windows XP Preview Disc [October 2001]
Hey all, hope this is okay for a first post! I've been hanging around the forums checking stuff out but I've decided I'd love to have a play with the stuff available on the FTP as well as discuss whatnot with you lot. Whilst this isn't as exciting as an actual OS, I thought there might be some interest in it. The Windows XP Preview Disc was a promotional disc given away in October 2001 as part of the marketing push to advertise the OS. On the disc is various multimedia and video demos of the OS and upcoming software such as the Plus pack, and the XP Upgrade Advisor.
I couldn't see it available here, hence me posting about it. If you'd like a copy, I'm happy to upload it.
Cheers!
Rich

I'd like to see this uploaded. I'm interested about promotional stuff for software. Can you give a detailed list of what it contains?

I would like to see it. Can anyone post screenshots for it?

Uploaded it to the public FTP. Enjoy
Re: Windows XP Preview Disc [October 2001]
I remember this thing. It was a free "take one" from my local US Post Office and I remember my mum getting me one, and it was so wow and stuff like that. Then we waited until 2002 to upgrade to XP, lol.

Even with FTP access, some people want to have it ASAP instead of waiting for it to be processedrhobariii wrote:Get FTP Access. Simple

For me BA FTP is faster than any file sharing site.

He means processing of the upload by admins, not the download speed.rhobariii wrote:For me BA FTP is faster than any file sharing site.

I mean I would rather wait than download it from a slow site.AlphaBeta wrote:He means processing of the upload by admins, not the download speed.rhobariii wrote:For me BA FTP is faster than any file sharing site.

Re: Windows XP Preview Disc [October 2001]
I'm happy to upload and post a Mega.co.nz link if it's allowed.
Re: Windows XP Preview Disc [October 2001]
For some users like you yes. Doesn't mean it's faster for everybody.rhobariii wrote:Still FTP is fasterwasabilee wrote:depends of site -_-
Anyway, we're getting out of topic.
Re: Windows XP Preview Disc [October 2001]
From what I understand it is allowed, since October 2001 is already "abandonware". Interesting how the CD label is "Windows XP Autodemo". That term is also known in video games, which automatically "play" promotional content, without the player having to control anything. Some users would probably want an alternative download source (such as Mega), since it takes a lot of time to process files onto the FTP usually.RichB93 wrote:I'm happy to upload and post a Mega.co.nz link if it's allowed.
By the way, is the MD5 of your ISO the following:
Code: Select all

Either way, thanks for sharing.

Re: Windows XP Preview Disc [October 2001]
The MD5 could be different to yours as I believe that this is a UK specific release as I found graphics with UK phone numbers and money in GBP.
I'll start the upload to MEGA and update this post with a link once it's done
EDIT: MD5 matches yours, so I was wrong about it being localised for the UK. My bad. MEGA link will be available soon!
EDIT 2: MEGA link here

Actually I verified this a few hours ago and this was indeed a UK release I thought, because there were ".co.uk" links in the images. I just received the same thing as you, only from another source, so it should be fine.RichB93 wrote:The MD5 could be different to yours as I believe that this is a UK specific release as I found graphics with UK phone numbers and money in GBP.
