New FTP script with private upload folders
New FTP script with private upload folders
Hello all,
I have spent this evening recoding the FTP servers page script so that we can now give you additional features.
The biggest new feature to come is for each user to have their own upload folder. This means you can privately upload files and only we will know it was you that uploaded it. You also have full permissions to upload, rename and delete files on your private upload folder so you can control it a bit easier.
Additionally we now have support for the VIP folders for when we finally get around to using it.
You'll notice the page will have changed slightly. I will be updating it on an ongoing basis to make it look nicer and work better, but for now it is in a workable state.
It will go live in the next few days (probably Tuesday), after I have finished conducting tests and checking for bugs.
In the mean time, you can continue to login using the existing script.
For users wanting to upload files, the new script will allow this to the existing public upload folder. Users without a forum account will not be permitted to upload files. Until then, please use other methods.

Re: New FTP script with private upload folders
Sounds awesome. Can any member use the public upload folder or can only FTP access members?
Re: New FTP script with private upload folders
There are no VIP folders yet. As I said, we haven't decided to put them to use yet and since there are no VIP's yet it doesn't matter.
We will have a public upload area for non-FTP members to get their access. This will be shown in the new script. Non forum account members will see an error page.

Okay, thank you for the clarification.

Re: New FTP script with private upload folders
Great feature! I hope resources in our ftp increase after this change, and more people will like to share their collections.
Re: New FTP script with private upload folders
May I remind that the upload guidelines still apply. Any uploads that are not compressed or accompanied with a checksum file will automatically be rejected. This because I can't verify the upload being error-free. I have seen several recent uploads where members uploaded only MDF/MDS or ISO files without a matching checksum file, these uploads will be automatically rejected unless the member can provide a checksum file, or re-upload a packed up archive.

If members don't upload properly then I'll be forced to disallow all filenames except the compressed variants.

@hounsell: Thank you. The really nice thing is that it runs on Wine.

Re: New FTP script with private upload folders
Just pack the files into a ZIP, there's checksumming integrated so you don't need any additional checksum files. It will be repacked anyway (to RAR with recovery records), and additionally you'll save some upload banwidth this way
I upload stuff to archive.org from time to time. See here for everything that doesn't fit BA
Re: New FTP script with private upload folders
Please use the "Update permissions" function on the FTP server page, I've reset all the upload folders to fix a small update to the FTP script. I've also taken the chance to download all the recent member uploads.
I also want to remind all members to prioritize the private upload folders and not use the public one.

Re: New FTP script with private upload folders
No, you need to properly dump and scan your release, pack it up, then upload it, apply for FTP access, and then if it's accepted you will get access to the FTP.

Re: New FTP script with private upload folders
I've cleaned out empty member folders. Please, do not re-generate this folder (by updating your permissions) unless you intend to upload something. It helps me out greatly by not having to go through tons of empty and unused folders...
