It seems that early 3D Realms stuff will be leaked soon (sadly, no DNF stuff :/ )

sad that release of the dnf early prototypes is not possible. maybe in some years when the licence is worthless. :(

Not quite impossible! Frederik Schreiber (CEO of Interceptor who recently acquired 3D Realms) reached out to Bethesda and Gearbox on Twitter and asked for their permission to release all alpha/beta/pre-release/whatever DNF/Prey material that they have (And from the sounds of it, Interceptor are sitting on a LOT of content) but Bethesda have yet to reply :/

Here's a thread on the Duke4 forums where Frederik goes into more detail

There have been legal disputes in the past month or so between Gearbox and 3DR regarding the use of the Duke IP so it's anyone's guess what could happen next...

They've got everything that exists. This includes DN3D, DNF, Blood, SW, Prey...

The problem here is this, though:

The way I see it "footage" means just that: footage, and not the files/builds/prototypes themselves. I doubt we'll ever see those :( I'd take a couple of - at best - unplayable early Prey builds over that 2006 game, frankly.

On the whole I wouldn't expect getting much beyond the SW and DN3D-related stuff. And don't get me wrong: that in itself is insanely cool, but the fact that they've got EVERYTHING just sitting there and most of that everything they can't even think about showing in any way makes me depressed.

Twitter probably wasn't the best way to go about this. Actually, I don't think there's any good way of going about this, save for prying those files from the cold, dead hands of their lawyers. And that we can forget about.

The way I see it, Bethesda won't release anything if it doesn't benefit them in some way. So maybe they'd put out something to promote another Prey game and generate some publicity. Maybe.

I know, I'm a buzzkill :P

The CEO of Interceptor seems to really care about what the gamers want. Really hope that someday we'll see an early DnF build release.

Yup, he does seem like a real fan (which isn't surprising considering what Interceptor did with RoTT), but this is something he has no control over. If the current owners of the Duke Nukem ip don't want that stuff released it isn't going to be released, no matter how badly the fans, the CEO of Interceptor or, say, the Pope would want that to happen.

Speaking of him being a fan, I'm really jealous that he (and a couple of other people) got to play with those files. I guess that's his reward for cataloging all of that mess :P

This is not exactly on topic, but it's kind of related. There's a mod for Duke Nukem 3D that aims to (re?)create DNF from that 2001 trailer as much as possible. It's pretty neat and I'd recommend anyone interested in either DN3D or DNF to give it a shot:

Easily better than the DNF that came out, incidentally.

There's even "DLC":
