Here are the commercials Microsoft made for all of their Windows versions.

I remember seeing the adverts for vista and up when they came out. The Windows 8 advert does make it look like it is designed for touchscreens, as all the computers in it are touchscreens.

The video from Windows Me was from the "Windows Me Preview"/tour, and not a commercial. I don't get why people think it's a commercial...

Just a reminder, that Windows 1 advertisement was not an actual TV commercial, it was an internal Microsoft video that made it's way on to the web. It was probably made about the same time as this jab at Sun http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jb5NTwAE ... ather=True

I don't recall they even did any TV commercials for Windows 1 or 2. It was mostly magazine advertising back then. Such as an entire edition of PC World dedicated to declaring Windows 2 as the new "PC standard".

As in, "Wow! That commercial for Windows Vista is horrible."

Come to think of it, the only memorable thing about most of Microsoft's advertisements for Windows Vista was how bad they were. Instead of describing the operating system as something "so new," and "unexpected," those 60 seconds should have been dedicated to the new features in Windows Vista that could attract a consumer audience (such as Instant Search, Parental Controls, Windows Sidebar, etc).

I agree with you Maza, but I didn't see it. I was too busy laughing at the second part of the Windows ME Tour to see it. It still cracks me up.

Anyway, the best commercials were for Windows 3.1.

Pretty cool video. You can see the inspiration for the Windows 8-era flat Windows logo in the first Windows 95 ad at 2:40 . I wonder if they had ever considered using the flat logo before Windows 8 and the flat UI trend came around?

It worked...so long as you were using it before a certain date in 2001. Yes MS released a hotfix for that one.
