I still think the funniest part of Windows 98 was when it was being demo'd and it BSOD'd after a scanner was hooked up. LOL "Well, uh, that must be why it's still beta!"

I also remember this.
One of the major points in this, interestingly enough, was "OnNow". Basically, OnNow was being marketed as a special way of powering your system off, while at the same time leaving your programs running, and even (if you can actually believe this!) allow your system to update itself from the Internet (requiring, of course, well, presumably anyway, that your hard drive power itself back on during this time, just for this alone).
It was really a deep sleep mode, that placed your system into a low power state. However, most people ignored it at the time, since they simply felt that it was nothing more than just another mere "sleep" mode, and therefore not anything that was actually worthwhile.
-------- Also, some Compaq Presario systems (almost certainly "OnNow" systems), such as the Compaq Presario 4505, were designed in such a way that the power button was really just a sleep button. Upon pressing it, your system would go into sleep mode, and upon pressing it again, your system would return to the way it was before.
Well, just upon flipping the power switch, the system would automatically power on, and upon shutting down Windows, the machine would first shut down Windows, and then power off in a strange way. Basically, it was the same thing you would see if you just rebooted to just before the POST, and then quickly pressed the sleep button, just in the nick of time. The system was otherwise "off", but you could still open and close the CD drawer, and the Sleep mode indicator light was still on, not to mention that you could still hear a slight noise from the power supply fan coming from the system itself (infact, back in around April or early May in 2005, I had two of those systems from two different sources, and the second one, slightly upgraded and running Windows 98, had been "powered off", and I was downstairs at night, in my bedroom, reading, when I heard a slight beeping noise coming from the attic, and then, very faintly, what sounded like the startup sound for Windows 98, and then, again, very faintly, the Welcome to Windows 98 music, and the next morning, I went upstairs, only to find the system completely on, surprise, surprise...)
Later systems, such as the Compaq Presario 5220, were not like this - they simply powered off fully when you told them to, although they still kept the Sleep mode functionality.
But, as for the Compaq Presario 4505, I seriously doubt that that's what Microsoft had in mind for "OnNow" (systems that don't fully turn off unless you flip the back switch!).
----
There were also many other selling points in this, such as USB, FAT32, ISDN, and Active Desktop, among other such things.
