I got a used Compaq nc6120 and tried to turn it on. It doesnt turn on with a charger, charger beeps, no lights. Any help?

Try yanking the battery away and wait a while, then plug in the cord and try booting.

I have this issue with my work HP, I can't have the battery in at all or it just refuses to start.

Thanks for help, but the AC jack smells bad when charger is plugged in. I will buy a new motherboard.

EDIT: We got this laptop from my dad's friend and it didn't boot since the battery was empty and there was no charger, so we had to use my Compaq's laptop charger, but charger beeped and the DC jack smelled really bad. We bought a new DC jack for 3 bucks on eBay but i don't know is it the mobo or something else.
