Windows Longhorn 5112 Edition Build 4066

Post by Pwned »

My new project is, taking Longhorn 4066 and making a client version of that. Because many people don't want to install 4074 because of "buginess", it's easier for them to use 4066. But it's a server version, without background and client things...
Project involves registry changes and etc...
So, I hope you like that project. More information on YALB (look at the signature).

4066 is terrible unstable and unusable

takes 1 minute to detect file types and assign appropriate icons to them
explorer crashes constantly

its dead end IMO

the only thing i like in it was empty folder with working aurora

maybe i'm wrong, your title is confusing

Well, remove Winfs, pacth winlogon, remove timebomb, disable services and others tweaks and explorer work fine! On longhorn, specially 4066, 4028 and 5048 explorer wait Activation notication....I will try a project with Longhorn 4066 with server 2003 updates....Good luck!

The problem is... I can't do sysprep to clear the drivers. I extracted sysprep from 4066 ISO and launched. There was no generalize option, only Factory, Reseal and Audit. I tried all of them and drivers doesn't clear. How to resolve the problem?

Aha. I have a similar solution.

Install 4066.
Format.
Use XP.

I'm sorry, but I don't see the logic of taking an alpha build, disabling half of the alpha functionality 'because it's buggy' (what were you expecting? ) and dressing it up as an improvement. Then it's just an ageing, unstable and dangerously insecure OS with nothing to look at.

I don't think it's that worth it. Plus if I had to choose between 4074 and 4066, I'd say 4066 is even buggier and more unstable. If you're willing to install an alpha build, you should already know what to expect.

Well, in some ways he is right. In collections such as the 4066 aero work, but not on all boards actually do not know if the majority. The uncertainty of a system that does not receive updates to almost 6 years is astronomical, in addition to a performance for the most part low and incompatible with Microsoft's own things required today.
I just wanted to see if they bore some cool stuff 6.x systems, such as scalable icons, dialogs of the exclusion, exchange and other files showing the icons of files, the aero from 5048, with the crash information file in explorer and others ... But the system I like and make change is to 2003, and I'll do another 2008-based server or on the final order with different styles, performance tweaks and more...

I might have a client version of 4066, and I'm working on the .Net avalon present on 4066. I can send you some of these if you'd like, sysprepped and all.

Bumping a 4 year old topic...
How to avoid getting your hard work leaked:
step 1: sell CDs of your work
step 2: wait for someone to copy the disc and offer iso's.
step 3: Once someone finds an iso, they will put it on FTP.

You see that little report button in the top right of his post? I would suggest you use that next time instead of backseat moderating.
