Hello all,

You probably remember me saying some time ago that mrpijey and myself were going to be redesigning the FTP server structure to be more user-friendly, properly named with correct and needed information, and also repack every single file uploaded to ensure it works as intended with no errors, viruses/trojans etc.

We have decided to begin the reorganising now, even though not everything is completed. The reason being its beginning to become a headache for everyone, especially mrpijey, of keeping track of new files etc.

We decided that we will put all of the current files into an archive folder, most likely named "/Old Archive". We will then put the new structure directly into the root of the account just like the files were before, but now the folders will separate everything out into much better structure. As the files are repacked, renamed and re-uploaded, the original "Old Archive" file will be removed and the new file replaced into the new structure. This will save space and eventually narrow down everything not yet completed.

The structure is not yet entirely completed but it will probably look something in the form of this...




We hope this makes it easier for everyone, including ourselves, to find the files you need when you login for something specific.

We'll keep you updated with the progress but your best bet is to just look on the server itself to see the progress in work.

If anyone has any feedback regarding the FTP layout please contact mrpijey directly. The layout is not up for discussion, but it doesn't mean that mrpijey isn't accepting comments or ideas.

Only 1 suggestion for the applications, i think it's better to put another sub category in it with "Microsoft Applications", instead of putting all pc applications in one folder (including MS apps)

Not needed since every Microsoft application will be named "Microsoft .......".

I have this suggestion:

Put before every windows version 'windows' because now you can find 'Longhorn' and 'Windows Vista'. Same for 'chicago'. I think it is easier when it says: 'Windows Longhorn' and 'Windows Chicago'.

because blackcomb was never the codename of 7?

Wikipedia is NOT always right, at this time, its wrong. Im not so sure about vienna anymore, but the real codename was just "7", they overtook the codename for final...

Windows 7 isn't called Blackcomb because Microsoft codenamed Windows 7 as just that - Windows 7... and the final name is also Windows 7. I.e Windows 7 is both the codename and final name. And why Microsoft named it Windows 7 instead of Blackcomb? Ask Microsoft...

From what I've gathered Blackcomb was the name for Longhorn+1. As MS went back to naming windows releases after cities instead of ski resorts (from Longhorn to Vista) they also renamed Blackcomb as Vienna which later was renamed to 7. So in short, Blackcomb was the name for the next Windows client after Longhorn. I doubt there's been any code written during the time it was named Blackcomb but it existed as a product codename.

...and this thread isn't about discussing the proper codename for Windows 7... please move your codename discussions it to a new topic since codenames is as much offtopic you can get in this thread.

To the best of my knowledge when MS was still working on early pre-reset longhorn, blackcomb (then Vienna) was the projected codename for what was supposed to come next, unfortunately that version of the future didn't pan out, and we ended up with Vista -> 7 (7 being much if not completely different than blackcomb was intended to be due to the fact that longhorn, which was supposed to be it predecessor was never built)

Wow, Excellent layout. I really love it because you had to scroll and scroll and scroll to find the files you needed sometimes, and even worse, sometimes I was not sure if it was called "Microsoft ..." or Just "..." so you also had to browse both ways.

Sorry if I am going a bit offtopic here, but why is that if you leave Filezilla FTP client idle for a little while, it automatically disconnects from the BA server?

Its called a timeout, and its there to kill idle connections to save bandwidth and open slots for other users who may want to use the server.

Oh yes, I understand. You know, if I am downloading something, and it then auto-disconnects from the server, howcome the download doesn't get interuppted?

Because the download is flagged as active, not idle.

Also the fact your using 2 connections 1 for the listing one for the download so when the listing connection disconnects, the download connection stays connected thus continues downloading

Oh, I get it now. I never used to understand exactly how FTP server actually work in detail.

I Actually love the new layout because sometimes, while searching a file that was "hard" to find (because of it's filename) I would get disconnected, and I had to start all over again, hehe, Now, It's easier, because another thing is that when you enter a folder, the server restarts the "Idling counter", so it's like when you move the mouse before the screensaver appears.

Yes, I had that problem when I was trying to look for a certain thing that I know was on the server, but because the server is crammed with so many goodies, it was extremely difficult.

But, fortunately now, we can find them on a more easy way!!
