ok so I have decided to make a custom Longhorn.

I want either:

5112
4093
4074
4051.

4051 = Seems stable in my opinion
4074 = From what I heard, garbage.
4093 = eh >_<
5112 = Most likely best.

I want to rename it to say instead of Microsoft Longhorn to Codename: Jade.

to change the build from 5112 or w/e to 1008.

Please help me with this. :(

Custom bootable CD:

Recodenamed install.wim (Longhorn to Jade)
change all Longhorn/Vista refrence to Jade.
and repack some new wallpapers and stuff :P

Contact me for further details:

Hi,

Couldent help notice that you mentioned that 4074 was garbage, suffice to say i dont agree, since i am using it right now on my "private" laptop - once you know the tricks.. you can get it running quite good.

What exactly is it you intend to do, why?
Besides change all the names from Longhorn to Jade...

Forget it.
I've wasted 2 (or maybe even more) years of my life when hardly working on customizing & fixing Longhorn...
One word: fail. It's too buggy. Try to fix one bug, it will born another. The kernel is unstable [censored], the later version the better you can see it. I've belived and fooled myself that i will be able to make it working good. adding any special feature (Fancy Aero? Destkop stars? Desktop Aurora? APPA? Transparent taskbar & sidebar? What's Longhorn without them?) makes it even more unstable...

Unless you are talking about builds after reset (Longhorn Omega-13) but it's just more and more Vista so i don't see a point. Let's be honest - since beta 2 it was all like Vista and nothing was cuted from them, just added new features and bug fixes. Befor beta 2? What's so interesting in 5112, 5219 or 5231? Another start button? Oh, the 5048 was cool, but it was lacking of features and everything that's in it can be on XP (along with aero that offers just a simple transparency not even extended to the navbar area, TrueTransparency will do the thing and is more stable)...

I tell you - if you wanna look of Longhorn with usability and stability, maybe start moding XP/2003/Vista/2008...

exactly why it will 9/10 be Build 5112, (Beta 1). Beta 1, my cousin tells me, is reallllly stable for a beta.

Wait, you've never actually used this OS, and yet you intend to modify it?
And I'm pretty sure the most stable Build is 6001, why not modify that?

You fail to address the question of significance,
Here is what you sound like;

I will take a nearly completed product
and rebrand it as mine

That was the point I tried to raise with the whole " what do you want to do, other than change the name" It seems very rather... whats the word... immoral?

pointless?

If you're going to do a project, you should have ideas and designs before the name and announcing it.
