The topic says it all. I still use Win2k on my computer, which I like very much. From what I understand IE 6 SP2 is only delivered with the WinXP SP2. Is there a possibility to seperately install IE6 SP2?

And if so - why doesn't MS offers this with Windows Update?

Best regards
Jens

I don't think so, the newest IE available for 98/Me/NT4/2000 is IE 6.0 SP1.

Thanks for the quick response.
Do you know, if this involves a high security-risk?

My problem is, that I use AOL-Software (and have to use it, as I'm part of their volunteer program), and so I cannot completely uninstall IE and just use Firefox. At best I could use Firefox as AOL-external-browser.

Best regards
Jens

I don't think it can be a significant risk as Windows 2000 is still under extended support, which means they have to provide patches for security issues, and you should still see new updates for your copy of IE on Windows Update. IE6 SP2 was mainly things like the pop-up blocker and that Information Bar thing, which I suppose they thought were new features and so not available under extended support.

According to Wikipedia, Internet Explorer 6 SP2 is only available as part of a standalone Windows XP SP2.

So, not sure it will work on Windows 2000, as it is probably based on some new security features added in XP SP2.
