Hi there.
I just have an old PC which on i am about to install LH 4074 over USB (i don't have CD-R discs currently.)

I decided to use WinToFlash. Is 4074 setup based on WinPE or just like XP (text-mode setup)?

P.S. Sorry for asking a pointless question, i didn't have time to download nor to install 4074 on a VM.

4074's setup is WIM-based (WinPE), the x64 version, howerer, uses i386.

Also another question: Will it work on this config?
The specs:
Pentium 4 1.5GHz (overclocked to 1.8 GHz)
256 MB DDR400
128MB Radeon 9250
80GB HDD

Of course it will. Note that I had a Radeon 9250, and it doesn't seem to support Vista Beta Aero (5112).

Yes, because it thinks 4074 is Vista, when it's technically isn't. Its WinPE is neither.

Well, I think you can upgrade from Windows XP.

Put 4074 in a Windows Vista install.wim (i.e. create a new WIM using the Vista AIK).
Use WinPE 2.

Ohh, downloading a 2 GB file? Then learning to use AIK?

Tbh, if I was being serious, I'd be telling you all you want is imagex which you can probably get singular. The AIK is useful for repackaging though. There's also something called a search engine which can be used to obtain help documents or guides for using an AIK.
The other point is, it's on the web (wimpack) and has been for about 4 months. This means it has been indexed by most if not all search engines.

Not sure what you're referring to about being on WIMPack? It doesn't have anything from the AIKs yet - it's largely focused around the Longhorn-era techs at the moment. It does have the 4074-compatible ximage.exe (b4059 iirc).

I'd recommend the "later builds" method I detailed on WIMPack today about Installing Longhorn builds from USB.

This simply allows you to prepare a standard XP/2003 bootsector, drop in the ISO files and my patched NTLDR and boot as you normally would.

You're following the wrong instructions - You want to scroll down and follow "Later Builds". Actually, all you need to do now is grab the patched ntldr from WIMPack, and drop it in the root of the drive.

It runs PAINFULLY slow and uses more than the total RAM when idle.

That's got nothing to do with the AIK or Repacking though...
