Next time, look up SSE2's history. It has been in every Intel chip since the P4 in 2001. So no, you can't install those on something without SSE2, because there IS no processor without SSE2 that would be powerful enough to run the OS.

You still can't, because OS X doesn't support anything less than a Core 2 Duo.

Fact remains that you can't run it on a P3.

Then go for Windows 2000 or Ubuntu 8.04. Both are good, stable operating systems that run well on a P3. I speak from experience.

A Pentium 3 would generally not be able to handle Mac OS X 10.4, definitely wouldn't be able to handle 10.5, sure as hell wouldn't be able to handle 10.6, and can't handle 10.7 at all under any circumstances...
If you want to OSx86, get a better machine...otherwise throw XP on that Pentium 3, it's a much faster OS, and would be much more stable than OS X if you managed to mangle it on there...and good luck finding kexts for your old machine.

Umm....if XP was slow, OS X probably isn't the best idea. Seriously, consider Windows 2000.

OS X 10.2 can barely run on 64MB...Windows 2000 can run decently, and Windows 98 would run very well. If you REALLY hate Windows, go Linux.
He'd have to go OLD Linux, like Debian 5 or older. Most stuff newer than that is comparable to XP or Vista in terms of resource usage.

Yeah, and DSL is specifically designed for old computers. That's a good idea, though. I'd forgotten about that distro.

Experiences vary from one distro to another. And I realize that you'd rather go OS X, but none of the ones that run on Intel are going to work on your hardware. So your choices are Win98, Win2000, or some flavor of Linux.

In response to the OP, in order to run OSx86 you MUST have at least an SSE2 capable CPU.
Typically, OS X requires at least an SSE3 CPU, but hacks exists (Kalyway install discs and the like) which bring this down to SSE2 CPUs. Any less than this and its impossible. Your Pentium III will never be able to run OSx86.
I'm guessing money is extremely tight, otherwise I would have recommended upgrading to C2D, so your two options are trying to pick up a Pentium 4 class desktop, or a Pentium M class laptop, then using the Kalyway 10.4.10 install disc (google it).

I do find it interesting you're an "official" Apple hater in your sig, yet seemingly desperate to try OS X.

You can't do this, for a variety of reasons. Number 1 is that 10.4 for Intel has no Retail Version, so any image you might obtain is designed for a specific set of Macs and can't be installed on a PC.
Number 2 is that if you want to use OS X, you need to just get yourself a Mac. You can "hack" a PC to install it, but not everything will work, and Apple can easily break it with any subsquent update.
Number 3 is that there is no good reason to use 10.7 at this time, unless you like interacting with a desktop computer with finger motions, as in the iPad. I know I don't like that.
Number 4 is that if you're such an irrational Apple hater, then you have no good reason to use OS X at all. Hate toward something or someone you've never interacted with is irrational, and that alone makes your judgement suspect.

Windows 2000. It's awesome for that PC.

I've said that twice. I don't think he's listening.
