Hey everyone.

The longhorn stuff collection at http://lh.iamstupid.eu/ (though i currently can't reach it) has a really awesome
almost longhorn WebOS. I'm Keen to work on this and try to build an actual workable webos, but the problem is that I don't want
to be seen as stealing it, so I decided to ask the question, If the owner is still here on bA, as to if I am allowed to modify it, work
on it and eventually redistribute, all credit to the right persons of course
If not never mind

Ask the author, he/she can tell you what you can and can't do with his/her work.

That's exactly what he's trying to find out, who the author is.

In which case it's best to start looking for contact details such as an email address. Hint: he didn't disclose his information on his domain. Snoop around some other well known sites such as Joejoe (if I am not mistaken).

The authors of the project are fzajac and I. It is not (currently) open-source.

Well, fzajac had the basics (sidebar, "taskbar" with start button, start menu) and I just implemented the LWM (Longhorn Window Manager). He has also implemented a basic search interface in PHP.

It's not reachable, though.
If you don't want or don't have time to maintain it anymore, it would be nice to opensource it.

Why not make your own and opensource it instead of dropping hints to use something somebody already made that they may not want to opensource?

Ok right, but I was just saying it would be nice.
As a matter of fact, an abandoned closed source project makes little sense when there are users who'd like to work on it.
Just this, really.

That's just like saying to Microsoft: Windows 2000 is abandoned support-wise, make it open source please.

You didn't get the point.
What I'm trying to say is just like "It would be cool if Microsoft opensourced Windows 2000".
It's just my opinion, and I think it makes sense.

It's not uncommon for businesses to opensource projects when they don't need them anymore.
And well, sometimes they opensource successful and living projects just because they believe in that model.

But please, don't take this as opensource advocacy, or, even worse, as trying to convince that webos authors to opensource it.

To be quite fair, there are too many people dropping hints making 6ft craters at a time . It's a project developer's decision to open source it. While you may agree that it should be, DBlake/Fz shouldn't be pressured in to doing so, they can do that in perfect time. Sure it would be nice to get a complete set of source code but tbh, it's nobody's place to ask really.

I agree with you, it's their business, so no pressure at all.
But I wrote this on my last post. ;)

I was merely asking, I didn't mean any offence, heck, some people come accross as really rude.
Thanks very much to those who responded. Much Appreciated

the Longhorn Web OS was originaly created by Leon Bollerup

the github can be found https://github.com/devinr/longhorn-webos

the latest is broken so you may need to back track a few revisions

Little bump, just to let you know that Longhorn Stuff Collection is still up and running, but at another address (maybe jman6495 got it wrong).
So: http://iamstupid.eu/Logon.htm
It's worth a try, very funny.
Congratulations to DBlake and fzajac, good job. ;)

EDIT: maybe http://lh.iamstupid.eu/ hosted a different version of the web os (on another server)?
Don't know, I've just randomly found this and thought it can be useful to someone, perhaps.
