Didn't recieve anything... Anyway, that's for private builds only, it's not present in public builds (39 is an exception). For 39, just enter lots of "X" and it should work fine (of course this wasn't the original activation key). Those square buttons will be replaced with better ones since the current ones are pretty limited...
Just try to implement the idea, send it to me and I'll see if it works OK.
OFFTOPIC: Does this happend only on BA or elsewhere too?

Yeah no, the message completely dissapeared, but I think I must have forgot to press send, because I left my PC, came back and it was shut down (at startup found out it was some error). Good to hear the key is just for private builds, makes sense.
I liked the square buttons, since they were metro, but if they can be made better thats good too.
OFFTOPIC, my BA is completely messed up in Firefox, better clean my cache and see if it fixes it, since in Poseidon, Chrome etc. shows BA just fine. Wonder what could cause that?

The problem with these buttons is that they use images as backgrounds, so when resized, the images will be blurred/otherwise deformed... Which looks ugly. The current buttons also don't support dynamic text changing; in the wizzard for example, at the last page the "next" is suppose to change to "finish" but doesn't... The first issue will be solved by using plain color and built-in borders, the second I still need to figure out a solution.
OFFTOPIC: I have no idea, but maybe doing what you said will fix it...

I see, so the buttons do need changing.
OFFTOPIC: Clearing cache+cookies fixed it. But that was very, very strange
EDIT: Poseidon running in XP Pro SP3 with IE6:
As the image on right shows, its got some problems, but it seems to work in Windows XP with IE6 (with SP3 and .netfx4full)

No errors on startup?
Anyway, it's still not officialy supported. Last IE version you can get is 8 (which is also no longer support since build 40) and the OS is otherwise unfit for Metro and Aero.

Only error was that I didn't have .Net installed, after I installed .Net 4 Poseidon didn't give any errors. Just proves that you can run it on XP, even if its not supported. I actually expected the first error to be due to incompatibilities, and was surprised when it ran after I installed .net. I'll try to download Windows 2000 from the Betaarchive FTP and check if Poseidon runs on that (since Microsoft only offers XP, Vista, and 7 for web developers). Would laugh if it runs in 95 though.
The second screenshots shows what Google looks like in Poseidon, I don't know what causes it, since Google is ok in IE6. Other websites seem to work fine in Poseidon in XP with IE6.
EDIT: What code in build 40 will make IE8 unsupported?

It checks for IE version; if version 8 or earlier then no Poseidon for you... This would affectively also kill XP since you can't run IE9 or later on it.

I meant why don't you want to support it? Or do you just feel that IE9+ is required for a proper browser experience, and therefore anything without it doesn't deserve Poseidon?

Downloaded Windows 2000 MSDN version from FTP, but it requires a product key, oh well.

My personal opinion is that it's outdated, obsolete and should be abandoned ASAP. The mere fact that you can't install IE9 on it is frustrating. IE9 is a big improvement over IE8 and really improves the overall expirience. And don't hope for NT 5.X support in the future, I'm not changing my mind.

Ok, not a problem for me since I use Windows 7 primarily, and Windows 8 RP secondary-and will move onto using Windows 8 as my primary once its released. I suppose anyone with XP will need to stick with Firefox or Chrome then, since IE and Poseidon have abandoned the old system.

Honestly, it's time to move on. We wouldn't make any progress if we'd still be using Windows 95 (for example) just because it was reliable once upon a time...
Anyway, this is a message to everyone: NT 5.X is NOT supported and will NEVER be supported. Same goes for the engine; it WON'T be replaced by something "better".

End of discussion.

Since you said end of discussion, but I just had to add that I agree with the above, I don't think current software needs to be backwards compatible (since its current software), and anyone running anything below 7 needs to upgrade to get new software (but people like that exist: http://www.betaarchive.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=24392). Engine could need upgrading in the future though, since there could be something "better" (if not now, then in the future). Also, support for Linux etc. since people running Linux don't really need to move on.

It looks good, DeFacto, but it's technically not a browser, just IE on a window. (And yes, i read your last post)
Its an UI for the trident engine (as far as I know). So what your sort of saying is that Chrome and Safari are technically the same browser (since they both use the WebKit engine). But your right in that DeFacto hasn't written his own engine (which would be very dificult).

Exactly. Even if I used GeckoFX or WebKit, it would still be Firefox or Chrome/Safari on a window... Writting a new engine is not something even remotely possible to be done in VB.NET...

Shall some constructive visual feedback be welcome?
1.) The blueish Metro color, is it capable of being user-adjusted to something else? 2.) The font used in the location bar, is it a standard system font, global or application specific? Looks a bit harsh. 3.) The little arrow drop-down near the Back button is out of place and looses the clean lines. 4.) Supplemental Metro-style themes -- will such be possible or available?

1. Yes, as of build 39, which was made available to the general public recently. 2. Location bar? Could you be more specific...? 3. Never noticed that actually... 4. Don't know at this point.

Oh, that's Segoe UI at size 12... In case you haven't noticed, this is the main font in Aero. In build 40 I shrinked the gigantic adress bar a bit so the font is now at size 9 like other text in the program.
Yeah, that was planned for version 2.0, I also made a concept and posted it here. And I agree, mobile browser are a good example how this should look...

DeFacto, I don't know what the problem is but when I launch Poseidon on 7 x64 HP the browser will hang on startup with all of the frames for the icons and what not, and will continue to hang until it crashes. Can't give you a screencap cause I'm not on my computer at the moment sadly. :c

No problems on my 7 x64 Acer.
-short lag with icons though, white boxes... But very short, and doesn't crash.
