Ok, i just grabbed the Whistler 2416 ISO. I wanted to emulate it and make screenshots. I emulated it in VMWare Player, the latest, 3.1. Setup loads drivers and then says Setup is starting Windows Whistler and stops there forever. I have an AMD Athlon CPU, is the CPU itself the problem, i tried installing 2296 on Athlon XP and it freezed at the same spot.

Hmm. Win7+VPC= compatibility problems I THINK. Sadly my beta testing PC has fried RAM so i can't test it from there, but i will try VPC.

Virtual PC 2007 SP1 can be installed with no issues.

I have 2296 installed in VMware Workstation and it got the same problems of freezing but could be fixed with the following:

format with XP RTM CD by going to |Press F7 Few Times When Asking To Press F6 - (R) Repair - Diskpart : Create Partition, Leave Diskpart - Format C: /fs:NTFS.

I copied & saved the above for future (other builds) testing but actually it's from someone else in BA. 2416 should also work.

You could try increasing or decreasing some of the resources that you have allocated the machine or you could try using another piece of software such as VirtualBox.

Last time I checked you needed to disable ACPI in the VMware configuration file for the VM. I wish I could remember how. :$
