Hi guys! This is my fist time to website!
I just wondering what you guys think of Windows 8 betas? Especially that metro interface
I think it is more aimed to tablets and smart phone because of the metro interface and that I hope that Microsoft will provide a setting to switch off metro interface if you are using desktop.

I like it a lot.

Tablets/touchscreens, yeah. No need to put Windows 8 on a smartphone since Windows Phone already has that covered.

Not sure why you'd want to do that. Metro works surprisingly well on a desktop PC, better than I thought it would do. Besides, if you disable Metro, how are you going to do anything? The old Start Menu has been removed, so that won't be coming back.

Its going to have a hard time becoming known in the tablet market just like anything else non-iPad. If Microsoft can somehow use the popularity of Windows to drive up tablet sales then they may have a chance.
On desktops, Microsoft should provide a way to get the classic start menu back. Metro and Explorer just don't match very well and it will only confuse people who have become used to the start menu thats been around since Windows 95. If Microsoft doesn't I imagine we will see a decent 3rd party start menu replacement.
But I feel the Metro start menu replacement needs some work. Clicking and swiping it should move the menu along and clicking and holding should be used to move items. This is basically how things work in iOS and Android. Instead I'm forced to click and drag the horizontal scroll bar or use the mouse wheel. Also, there needs to be a search bar, we've had one in the start menu since Vista, not having the option from Metro feels like a step backwards.
Besides for that I really like the work they have done with Windows Explorer and the new Task Manager. I'm also looking forward to their ARM release.

I think it's a clean and fast operating system and it's well optimized for tablets and mobile devices. The missing start button and the Metro UI and it's functions doesn't feel very comfortable on a desktop pc though. If Microsoft don't change anything about that, i'll stay with Windows 7.

I know. I just want to see if it actually install and running. I just finished installing it. It is up and running . Quite slow though but at least it is up and running!

I think it is a very good OS for tablets and after Microsoft's final tweaking it will be an amazing OS and may even compete with the Ipad. On the other hand, unless Microsoft brings back the old start menu, I don't think it will be very popular with desktop PCs.

But overall is a pretty good OS, like the Metro UI, needs better integration with Desktops/Netbooks for the Metro.
This basically. Still a lot I don't like about it, I hope that Microsoft will take in the feedback from most desktop users and improve on it in the next Windows, interfacing with a computer using touch is great but right now it still doesn't compare to using a traditional keyboard and mouse when it comes to typing or even most games, and because of that in some regards I do think Microsoft's almost sudden "dedication" towards touch input devices is a little too soon.
I wrote some rubbish about gaming on Windows 8 here being rather disappointing but to be fair it's always been disappointing even despite the huge amount of opportunity surrounding Windows when it comes to gaming which services such as Steam and Origin have already taken advantage of, but oh well

Well, I'm thinking that even a simple arrow key to switch through screens, or even just a start button. You can't just give us 7 versions with one, (Varying, granted, but preforming the same action) and then just BOOM, change to something for Tablets, but I guess that's Microsoft for you.

If the new WinRT application suspension etc really does improve battery life, I'd be interested to see Windows Phone 9 to be a NT kernel. I could see them totally blocking ALL legacy apps there though, the desktop included since it really isn't suitable, though having metro apps work on windows and windows phone would be nice, maybe even the next xbox too?

Why wait for Windows Phone 9? Windows Phone 8 is a derivative of Windows NT.
Wait what? I missed that, I should keep more up to date. Also, when it comes to the Xbox I know it's a games console, but Microsoft are pushing DX11 for high performance games (likely what the next generation Xbox will use) and touch UIs do somewhat fit with Kinect and their new SmartGlass thingy. I don't see why they would create yet another API when WinRT is now shared across most things they develop (I'm guessing WP8 uses it).

I've been running Windows 8 native on my ThinkPad T60p since the release of the Developer Preview. I used the VHD install option and create a new image for each release. Can go back in time to my original Windows 2000 install or the Consumer or Release Previews atm.
Overall I've found using Windows 8 hasn't changed my usage patterns from those in Windows 7 at all. Personally I think Metro integrates quite well with the Explorer. However, unlike most uses it seems, I rarely ever used my start menu to begin with. That is the biggest complain I hear all over is the lack of the Start Menu. I can understand the complain to some extent but most people just don't seem to want to even try using the Metro Start Menu. The second complaint after that are the Ribbons in Explorer, though when they're minimized they don't seem any different than menus imho. I'm not a fan of the Ribbon in general myself, but not enough to actual spend time complaining about it.
For people who really want the start menu back, for whatever reason there are a couple of solutions. ViStart isn't specific to Windows 8, it provides most of the original Start Menu functionality. There is also Start8 which provides a start button and crams the Metro Start Menu into a smaller windows the shows over the desktop.

A topic on Windows 8 already exists, but anyway. I like the Windows 8 betas, personally DP was best, but RP is good also. I don't really like Metro on desktop (literally never use it, why would I?) So in a way I agree metro could go, since now whenever it starts up I have to click a tile just to get into Windows...

Really? I thought Windows 8 was supposed to be lighter on requirements? Runs really well on my netbook (although I think it has 1gb ram, but I think its only got ~1.1GHZ and 20GB).

There's a huge difference between "lighter on requirements" and "performs well".

I have a bad feeling about Windows 8, it's basically dumping years of PC support and heading in a Metro direction. From what I've seen, I'm not going to buy it. I just can't take it seriously.

Well, the performance on the same hardware could be better with Windows 8 than some other OS, what OS would perform well with those specs? Maybe a very light Linux would be fast

After going back to Windows 7, me neither and I feel like Windows 8 is almost a joke for desktop users. And I can at least say I've tried it for well over a month, it really didn't help improve my productivity at all but if I was using a tablet then I would definitely switch to it though as I currently do not I'll wait and see what Windows 9 brings us in the future.
